  1. Just dropping by to say hi. I absolutely love this profile pic of you. Very intense and I love black and white photography. Bragadaccio. One of my poems just won a contest and is published in "PunkSoulPoet" There's a link to it beneath my signature. Titled "Emalyne" Click on "The Catch" which was the visual prompt. Amazing painting! Untrained. How's your little beauty? I don't have any children but can just imagine the joy and laughter as you watch her doing new little things. That's it. Just wanted to connect.

    And you are charming.
The night before last, I stayed up all night with the boy, so he could do 16 online math assignments/tests that he'd procrastinated on. At any time he might've been locked out of the system for failing any test three times. He had to have them done by next morning to take the final exam. We had a couple very close calls, but he did it, finishing at 7:30 in the morning, and then he went to school. I could not help him, at all. I was just staying up with him for moral support. His math and logic abilities he gets from his dad, no question. His determination, that I might have had something to do with.

Heya Alan, I am doing alright, just a little busy with my kidlets and ever trying to keep from landing on my head, so to speak. The sun was shining today, it has been so ridiculously off and on with showers this spring, but I got a few minutes on my deck soaking in the vitamin D.
My oldest is turning 15 tomorrow. He is a great kid, smart, too smart sometimes.
It is good to be remembered. Thank you.

Oh, the joys of the debate board.
  7. Thanks Alanmt! Is that your little cutie pie? Hows parenthood and work? I just moved to a more country area of Long Island and love it. Surrounded by trees (my favorite gift of nature) On my deck with coffee I see deer and hear the rooster crow from a nearby farm. Best move I could have made.

I am glad to her that you are doing so well It must be so much fun to spend time with Sophia and get a fresh look at the world through her eyes. At least that is what it does for me when I spend time with my godchild.

Last time you said you hit a wall with the writing. Any improvement in that?

I am moving to Leeuwarden, which is all the way up north and about two and a half hour drive from Uden, where I am now. You are right, my country is a bit small. If you would go from all the way up north to all the way down south it would be about a three to four hour drive and that is about as far as you can go.

I am not too upset about the job I loved it, but it wasn't very good for my health. At the moment I am feeling quite happy most of the time, so I am not complaining.

You didn't answer my question though how are you?

Toddler mornings

by alanmt on 09-01-2012 at 02:14 PM
In my dreams I have long uninterrupted nights of restful sleep shifting gradually through sweet languor to wakefulness well after sunrise.

In my reality, I awake, exhausted, when it's barely light to the touch of tiny hands and the excited chirping of "I wake up, I wake up!" as if the day is a new present brought by Santa that cannot possibly be left sitting until later in the morning.

And so it is. I think I prefer my reality after all. Especially since

Rant-o-Rama

by alanmt on 06-11-2012 at 06:08 PM
S_____ is generous of her time and what little she material goods she has. She does nice things for people. She cooks and bakes and takes the food to her children. She buys lots of little gifts for her grandchildren. She is always willing to babysit her grandchildren so her children and their spouses can have a date night or get together with friends. She is a very hard worker; after her divorce she worked long hours in low paying jobs to provide for five children. She sacrificed having things

A thought on marriage equality in the U.S.

by alanmt on 03-15-2011 at 03:19 AM
I think that the argument that marriage is the union of husband and wife importantly related to the idea that children need moms and dads is a reasonably arguable one. I disagree with this position, both in its apparent elevation of the sexual identity of the two-parent pair over the value of good parenting, and in its obvious designation of child-bearing to the status of the prime, and only legitimate, raison d'etre of marriage. I would be happy to debate these issues with anyone on the merits.

100 years

by alanmt on 03-08-2011 at 04:12 AM
The song 100 years by Five for Fighting came out in 2004.

I was 40 years old, divorced, childless.

I loved the song, but it made me sad. I felt the years of my life going too fast, my chance to be a father gone, too many years wasted on a bad marriage with a broken woman. I was in love in 2004, but dating a guy. Even if we built a life together, children don't just happen for same-sex couples. It's difficult. Soon I would be too old to adopt. I was already mourning

ordinary morning

by alanmt on 05-17-2010 at 09:01 PM
Our baby daughter cries; it is 5:30 a.m. My turn, so I rise early and go to her, hobbling so I don't put weight on my broken toe. She is half-asleep, but her diaper is puffy with a nightful of urine. I deftly lift her and carry her to the changing table, change her and return her to the crib. She is still fussy, probably hungry, so I limp out to the refrigerater. The bottle of formula I prepared last night is still there. I return to her room and she swallows a few ounces before falling asleep again.
