"Sad" doesn't even begin to describe this place. There's money here and that's about it. The unemployment rate is at 1% and the city's growth rate over the last year was 8.8%, meaning you can live in an absolute crap-hole for a tidy sum of $3500 a month. C.R.A.Z.Y!!

Hola, Mr. Montana! I miss my Bozeman! How are things? How's your little girl?

No worries, you acknowledged it where I'd see it and I'm glad I could offer some things to think about. I always feel presumptuous, even if it doesn't always look like it.

I was a child when my parents raised them. I want to again, but my husband is NOT interested. At first the collecting eggs just stopped me in my tracks, and I remembered that our friends who sold us eggs sometimes, never did in winter, not enough to share. I had to look it up before I wrote the crit, and it varies, but conditions need to be good, light, enough food, and sometimes they stop if it is overly cold for a time. It depends, is the answer I guess. Things I'm not sure about always snag me, and I have to go look.

Opps well I did mean "fix it," but you get the message I intended hopefully.

Thanks for the help alanmt. I am currently working on chapter 2 of the the novel that was posted here (chapter 1), and I got some grammar videos from the library for esl learners. Eventually I will if it. I didn't think it was worth posting again to bump the thread.

Thanks Alan I'm never sure how much help I am, but it's always great being able to feed in your 2 cents to a story you enjoy.

A thought on marriage equality in the U.S.

by alanmt on 03-15-2011 at 03:19 AM
I think that the argument that marriage is the union of husband and wife importantly related to the idea that children need moms and dads is a reasonably arguable one. I disagree with this position, both in its apparent elevation of the sexual identity of the two-parent pair over the value of good parenting, and in its obvious designation of child-bearing to the status of the prime, and only legitimate, raison d'etre of marriage. I would be happy to debate these issues with anyone on the merits.

100 years

by alanmt on 03-08-2011 at 04:12 AM
The song 100 years by Five for Fighting came out in 2004.

I was 40 years old, divorced, childless.

I loved the song, but it made me sad. I felt the years of my life going too fast, my chance to be a father gone, too many years wasted on a bad marriage with a broken woman. I was in love in 2004, but dating a guy. Even if we built a life together, children don't just happen for same-sex couples. It's difficult. Soon I would be too old to adopt. I was already mourning

ordinary morning

by alanmt on 05-17-2010 at 09:01 PM
Our baby daughter cries; it is 5:30 a.m. My turn, so I rise early and go to her, hobbling so I don't put weight on my broken toe. She is half-asleep, but her diaper is puffy with a nightful of urine. I deftly lift her and carry her to the changing table, change her and return her to the crib. She is still fussy, probably hungry, so I limp out to the refrigerater. The bottle of formula I prepared last night is still there. I return to her room and she swallows a few ounces before falling asleep again.

Scrap of an unfinished Literary Maneuver entry

Half-Love

Eric slipped from slumber to wakefulness gently, and he snuggled tighter against Nate’s nakedness. He imagined they were alone together, just the two of them.

Savoring the fantasy, Eric rubbed his fingers lightly over Nate's smooth skin. The ring on his little finger hit something with a dull metallic click. Eric opened his eyes. The faint light of a thousand distant streetlights from the hillside a half mile away illuminated the bed. In the half-light, Eric
