How Many Graves

How Many Graves

can't satisfy the greed of this sovereign state
how much food can you fit on a plate?
how many families must continue to wait
for their loved ones to return from the war of hate?

to them another death is just water down the drain
keep telling you the effort's not in vain
with phony sympathy for all of the pain
tell me what's the cost of this supposed gain?

how many graves, how many graves will it take?

what new bill are they gonna instate
what part of the constitution are they gonna taint?
hidden by a mask of fear and hate
fish come biting when they drop the religion bait

ya listen to that f*ckhead O'Reily on the radio
proven sex predator you still listen to his show
suckin' in all the right wing propaganda
bowin' down when Uncle Sam commands ya

how many graves, how many graves will it take?

I see the sun setting in the sky
this torn nation screaming a desperate cry
can't seal the wound till ya start askin' why
why they're willing to send us off to die

how many graves, how many graves will it take?

Well, I guess people would disagree depending of what they believe.

I personally love it. It expresses my thoughts exactly, the words fit together very nice, and the rhythm is great.

But I really know nothing about songwriting.

a few of the rhymes are obvious but its a decent song even if I dont agree with the message.

too close to 'blowin' in the wind' to be truly original, but the theme is still a relevant one in this world of ours, sorry to say... so, it's worth working on to make this as good and fresh as it can be, imo...

could be a rapper rant or a folksy peace protest bit for coffee house performing, depending on how it's structured...

Thank you for all the comments and input.

Just read the lyrics to Dylan's "Blowin' in the wind" and yes I see the connection to "How Many Graves" and "How many roads." Too bad. Still, it's not like he could sue me for that.

Sorry for whoever doesn't agree with the message. Actually, I'm not sorry.

It's not a rapper's rant, although I was listening to a lot of Rage Against the Machine when I wrote this. However, we recorded this song, and everyone who heard it said it sounded like "straight ahead rock." Maybe that gives you a little hint as to the structure. And if that still doesn't help, well the chords are D, D, C, G.

Thanks again for the comments.
