Thy Scars
Anyone is welcome to comment and read into this song as they wish. Despite its religious overtones, it's really a relationship/matter of the heart tune. Enjoy. Or not.
Thy Scars
I never asked to be your saviour
I never wished for anything more
Than to find my redemption
To reclaim my soul
And end this inner war
But in my daze I relinquished control
You bent my will and I succumbed to your call
Crawling forth with broken heart as if only a tool
I once again erased the line
Again I played the fool
In vibrant celebration as the nail pierces my flesh
I abhor this crown I wear
A constant struggle with this cross I shoulder
The pain is far too much to bear
Head hung in shame . . . crusted in blood
Humiliation . . . dying in the sun
End this sorrow . . . thy scars undone
Pointless existence . . . tear stained visage
No more love left . . . I face my hatred
No more life left . . . sanctity in death
This is my benediction
An invocation of divine blessing
One day I hope to hate you
And take back the love meant for you
In vibrant celebration as the nail pierces my flesh
I abhor this crown I wear
This constant struggle with this cross I shoulder
The pain is far too much to bear
Until the oceans turn to blood
And for all the things I’ve left undone
I gaze upon the fall of my angel
As her grasp releases my heart
This saviour of yours has more than done his part
I never asked to be your saviour
I never asked to be your whore
I never asked to be your saviour
I never wished for anything more
Than to find my redemption
To reclaim my soul
And end this inner war

Interesting. Thanks for the comments. Why do you find it disturbing just out of curiousity?

I don't know how much help I can truly be on such a subject or lyrics, but I think I may of some assistance. I, myself, dislike religion. I feel that religion is used to manipulate. The teahcings in most religions are great, but the organizations are not. Anyways, these are only opinions. From what I viewed in your lyrics, they were not bad. It seemed to flow fine. I don't get the meesage that you were trying to put across in the lyrics, but it seemed to be 'written' from the perception of Jesus himself. This, I think, may offend alot of people. I believe that it is putting words in a historical figured mouth that may be very controversal.

Lines this are what I am talking about. I don't quite understand what you are shooting for. But, please reply to better explain what your goals were so that I may better understand and help.[/quote]

As I stated in my initial post, the religious overtones are just that. Overtones. Basically it's about the main character being everything to someone (ie., saviour) and being in love. And when the main character finally gives in and completely gives himself to her (ie., whore) , she takes it all away leaving him empty and hateful despite loving her still and being trapped by his emotions for her (ie., inner war). This leads to the humiliation, pain and regret. And disbelief that she betrayed his heart (the fall of my angel) until he realizes that he's done all he can. I hope that all cleared it up. Thanks for reading it!!!

It is a little clearer now. Knowing what you were aiming to achieve in this lyric, I don't think you did as well as you could have. I don't think there was enough explanation for the listener/reader to cypher the meaning. Yes, mystery meaning are wonderful. Many bands have amazing lyrics that I try to understand exactly what they are saying. Rufus Wainwright is good for that in certain songs. But I don't think it does justice to your song. The mystery of the meaning is too vague for people to cypher quick enough until they may be wrongfully insulted. I don't mind the song, but I can see it being very offensive when perhaps that is not what your were aiming. And, if you insinuation was the whore was Mary Magdaline, then you may indeed insult people. The song was not badly written, and would not sound bad music, but I still do not think I see the goal intended. It seems too controveral over a topic area that is worthless to me to be controversal. Insulting religion is one thing that can be done many times over and most of the time be a success, but putting words in histories mouth and changing possible motives may not be the best route.

I appreciate the comments but all in all the lyrics and their meaning are very personal to me without trying to be controversial and insulting to religion. Anyone is entitled to their view of the words but in the end it was written by me for me. Even my band has no idea how to perceive the song. As for insulting people, I'm in a metal band and it usually comes with the territory.

Fair enough. Not to insult in any way, but if it is a song by you for you why did you post it?

Um. I posted it because this is a forum and I wanted to share and see what others thought. The meaning of the song, the reason behind it are my meaning and reason. I could care less what anyone else thought it meant as long as it incited some sort of emotion.

Alright. I meant no offense if you took any. I was just concerned that posting it for other's thoughts may insult people. The topic of the song, I believe, can easily be taken the wrong way. I hope are many posts will help clear that up for people that may be offended. If you band has any recording of original music, I would love to hear it. My email is in my profile.
