    The Rasputin Song (written with TLoZM)

    The Rasputin Song (written with TLoZM)

    Grigori was his name;
    Mysticism was his game.
    He was counted an adviser to the Tsar.
    But the high nobility
    Didn't like him much, you see.
    They all thought his sucking up had gone too far.

    He was poisoned, he was shot.
    He was beaten, like as not,
    and with sturdy rope his hands and feet were bound.
    'Cause the cyanide and lead
    Didn't kill Rasputin dead.
    So they threw him in the river and he drowned.

    Then a group of noble men
    Lured Rasputin to their den--
    Told him falsely that the Tsar's niece was in town.
    To the cellar he was led,
    Given wine to drink and fed--
    Poisoned dainties that they thought would bring him down.

    [chorus]

    Prince Yuspurov then got scared
    and excused himself upstairs;
    Came back down with a revolver in his hand.
    Couldn't risk a front attack;
    Shot Rasputin in the back.
    But things didn't go the way Yuspurov planned.

    [chorus]

    Now Rasputin he was mad
    'Cause he's hurtin' really bad.
    But he stood to face Yuspurov and his friends.
    Though the cellar room was dark,
    Three more bullets hit their mark--
    And they thought Rasputin finally met his end.

    [chorus]

    To amazement and surprise,
    Old Rasputin did arise.
    So they bludgeoned him until he lay quite still.
    Then they tied him up real tight
    on that cold December night--
    and they thought that they had finally made the kill.

    [chorus]

    Like they'd planned it from the start,
    Took his body on a cart
    To the Neva where they hoped he'd float away.
    Three days later he was found--
    With his hands and feet UNbound--
    And the river in his lungs (or so they say).

    [chorus]

    There's nothing like a simile.
