    Start Over

Another song about getting past the pain of heartbreak and all the "self talk" that goes along with it....

Twists and turns, you bend and you break.
Life throws a curve and you give it a fake.
Dodging the bullets sometimes you win
But more often than not you’re starting over again.
    (Chorus)
Whats missing when you just want to rest?
Whats the lesson when you’ve given your best?
Where’s the reward for giving your heart?
    Can you get it back?
    Can you really start
    Over?
    (verse)
    Promises heard but maybe imagined.
Gotta work hard if it’s really worth having.
Show your best side, will it be good enough?
Show your worst side- hope this really is love.

You should know better by now, learn to be real.
Quit trying so hard, say what you feel.
Try not to need, try to move on.
You don’t have to be lonely just because you’re alone…

    (Chorus)
What’s missing when you just want to rest
What’s the lesson when you’ve given your best
Where’s the reward for giving your heart
    Can you get it back?
    Can you really start
    Over?

    (Bridge)
All the trials, all the tears
    The days turn to years
    You’ve got blessings to count
    But you still want out
    (verse)
Can you make up for the ground that’s been lost?
Is there something waiting that was worth the cost?
Is hope worth the trouble of smiling each day
When you just want the world to go away?

The trouble with love is it never lasts.
you cant see the future till you forget the past .
hold on to the present, let the pain remind you.
what will you have if you leave it behind you?

Aww I liked it. And yeah, would love to hear it recorded.

Thanks so much for reading and commenting. I am glad you like these. They were written all at once and definitely from the heart. Im often able to hear melody when i write lyrics but in this case I am still waiting for it to come to me....

one of my fav topics, heartbreak. I almost feel when love ends and heartbreak sets in it takes a little bit of our soul with it. each little thing we do..like writing, playing music whatever! brings a bit of it back to us. I do like the lyrics.

interesting. I always enjoy reading lyrics with true meaning. only thing better is hearing it recorded, unfortunately, with some artist it doesn't transfer well.

Good song, but the all-question chorus is kind of cliché.

Very nice... but sorry that yet another person had to learn those love lessons, if only love could really be without hurt.

Human experience, Collective human experience is the KEY to any good song, poem, script or piece of writing. You felt it. It was there. Even though I read rather quickly I still felt it. Lessons are everything! If u don't learn your lessons you might as well not even be alive. the hurt was there, the question was there, but what is the resolution? perhaps I should read deeper... a good song is not this "Baby I love you... boom boom boom" anybody can do that, a monkey can do that, but this is art. It comes from the soul, now that is true writing. I don't care if people give me a hard time, because my philosophy is you've got to FEEL it, and so do your listeners.

Every word was pain on paper to be honest. The whole bit was written in one fluid 10 minute sitting. It was my heart breaking and the self talk narrative that makes you question if it is ever a good idea to be vulnerable. The song is about the questions that follow any painful event. There are always "whys" and "what ifs" and a feeling of unfairness in life when we lose something or someone of value regardless of how it occurred. Anyhow, thanks for everyone's comments and it is good that for most, the genuine emotion was felt. Thats what is all about I think.
