Thread: Concept album BEHIND THE WALL OF FREEDOM

Synopsis:

These lyrics are concept fantasy story with real elements from history.

Short storyline:
The story is about a me (as a storyteller) and my best friend John. We are living in East Berlin that is cut off from West Berlin by the Berlin wall. We decide to emigrate to West Berlin where we think there is freedom. I make it to West Berlin but my friend John is shot on the Berlin wall. Living in West Berlin I realize that there is no freedom here either and people are controlled by corporations and money. After the fall of the Berlin wall I return to former East Berlin. I wonder whether people achieve to take the best elements from both worlds in rising united country.

Long storyline:
The story is about me (as a storyteller) and my friend John. We are living in East Berlin that is cut off from West Berlin by the Berlin wall. I am in childhood, living careless and in innocence and so I care only for playing games and having fun.

One day my best friend John plays a cassette of some rock band from West Berlin to me. Albums of the rock band is forbidden in East Berlin and I even don´t know about this sort of music. I like it very much. John tells me he wants to emigrate to West Berlin to listen to this music freely and to live in freedom. Then John offers me to go with him. I love music very much. The music that John has given to me and he´s opened his eyes.

Adulting I´m listening more albums of rock bands and from their lyrics I realize that I live in country where „freedom“ is just a word and lies are told to me. After four years I decide to emigrate, what is considered in my country like „crime of treason of Democratic republic“. So I and my friend John become partners in crime.

We emigrate on a new years morning when watch guards are drunk. When John as the last is climbing from the wall he is shot. I want to rescue him but John argues to leave him and run. John dies.

I´m finally in promised land (West Berlin), but my best friend John is dead.

I´m coming to a city and I´m overwhelmed by Brave new world and I´m staring at music shop where are all albums of rock bands that are forbiddden in my country.

After six months living in West Berlin I have opened my eyes two times more. I realize that not all things that glitter are gold even in so called „Democracy“. I realize that here another hidden dictators such as corporations and money are ruling. Then I compare my country (where people have no rights to change it) to this country (where people have rights to change it but they are lazy or afraid of losing their jobs).

Finally the Berlin wall falls and I can come back home.

After almost one year since my escape I´m standing at my best friend John´s grave and thinking about my blame for John´s death because if we´d waited one more year John have could lived. Then I ask myself „Where freedom lies?“ because I have been in all both worlds and I haven´t found it. I wonder whether people achieve to take the best elements from both worlds in rising united country.

A big, impressive project. a couple of small nits "If we've waited one more year" should be we'd for 'we had' rather than 'we have' and I think you mean proofs for prooves.
In your storyline you take some linguistic short cuts, this is not a good idea, it is the first thing people will read and so should be totally correct, eg.

Short storyline:
It´s what? this is the first word 'The Album is' about a boy (who is the storyteller) and his friend John who are living in East Berlin that is cutt one t off from West Berlin by the Berlin wall. They decide to emigrate to West Berlin where they think there is freedom. The boy makes it to West Berlin but his friend John is shot on the Berlin wall. Living in West Berlin the boy realizes that there isn´t freedom too is no freedom here either and people are controlled by corporations and money. After the fall of the Berlin wall the boy returns to former East Berlin and he thinks if people achieve to take the best elements from both worlds as totalitary East Berlin and capitalistic West Berlin in future united country. This is a confused sentence, 'if' requires 'then'.
I liked the way you used 'Brave new world', I instantly remembered that the hero hangs himself at the end of that book and got a good clue where you were going with it, this strikes me as one of the better things I have read in this forum, though I am no great shakes as a lyricist and no doubt others will have more revealing comments, good luck and welcome to the forum, Olly

I reworked synopsis.

Way too long for one post....You completely lost my interest within the first few lines... I would NOT recommend posting a entire musical stage production.... A stage musical has three parts: script, lyrics and music. First write the script.... Get the storyline tight.... then work on the lyrics & music..Then register it and start hunting for a backer........And I sure would never post the script for anyone to see. You want criticizes on individual pieces you can post them but don't give away your entire story or explain them.. A lyric should be able to stand on it's own regardless.)

When posting your work on these forums, you should expect some help, and if the help includes criticism (even criticism you disagree with), it's good to take the help and choose yourself whether to follow through with it or not without disrespectfully judging the criticism to the critic.

I agree with MTMarshall in that - though many artists have a theme to the lyrics in an album, and can often add those themes to the album itself - the lyrics themselves tell the story for the reader/listener (depending if any music gets added to the album), and so to explain it to them in a paragraph beforehand can seem quite patronising. I understand you want whoever reads/listens to understand the story of the album fully so they can interpret the lyrics with that in mind, but the songs are quite clear-cut as they are.

I commend you for your effort, Hugozhor. There are still a few grammatical errors that need to be addressed, and I suggest going through every lyric with a fine-tooth-comb. Along the way, you might see some room for improvement in the lyrics. Read it through and correct it (a few times should be fine), and then I think you'll find you'll be much happier with the results.

I understand you about publishing theme to lyrics. That´s why I added note "sinopsys" so everyone can choose to read lyrics with theme or without. Maybe I should replace sinopsys at the end of the thread.
