Who said anything about rigid paths? Stuff that works as poetry as opposed to most of the stuff that works as lyrics have different structures on all sorts of levels, not just rhythm, or verse-level.

That's true. Lyrics are generally a heck of a lot simpler than poems and its partly about the sound of the word rather than its meaning. I mean, I plan on making my lyrics into full blown songs one day (and if they need to be changed to fit, so be it) so its the intention thats part of it, but if I called them poems they'd be really shit ones.

Because there isn't really anything going on to give them an active pase. It's more like describing scenery or a philosohpy than anything active, and lyrics are 99% active things. They give meaning to anything you can describe by showing it happen, not describing it happen. As a lyric, it feels like it would be dead in the sense that it's just not moving. It could be a beautiful piece of music but it requires virtuoso level writing and a background to it to really come through and be appreciated. I don't mean any offense, because its an awesome poem, but it doesnt want to move as a lyric.

Ah. Because it is static, as you say. It would then fall into that 1%. The only viable model I can think of would be Black Sabbath's Solitude...although this track isn't a ballad. I dunno. It's just a song. We'll see how it works when I record the vocals. Here's the instrumental track. Thanks for commenting.

Everytime I see this thread title, that song from kenny wayne shepherd pops in my head...blue on black, tears on a river, push on a shove, it don't mean much...

EDIT : upon actually reading the lyrics for that song, they are completely nonsensical

I'd opt for Deep Purple's Black Night over that but they're both good tracks. Thanks for the kind words

Well, yeah. I was defending it Foxee. But I do agree partially with Mystery's explanation since that was essentially what my main criticism was, except worded much more clearly.

And I had a listen to the track moderan, pretty tank although you'd want to be careful with the vocals since its so so easy to slip into the cheese with that style.

I'm more of a Motown fan, although I do like some rap.
