Fear II

Piggybacking off of the young Tristiano's thread on anxiety and confronting fear. I once mentioned in another thread, about Horror movies, that the movie "Cyborg" starring Jean-Claude Van Damme, especially the scene of him being chased by that massive sized dude, was a horror film to me. I stated that thing I think can potentially happen in real life are things that scare me.

Failing in violence; meeting bigger, stronger, better foes is something of an anxiety I have. Anyone else have those fears? I mean real fears not an "occasional" worry.

Here's examples of the level of foes and altercation I'm talking about.

(These are aggressive fist fights on youtube of grown adult felons in the USA, I provide the addies but not the links in case one wishes to respond but not view them)

I don't understand ... wouldn't practically everyone be afraid of having to fight someone huge? Or do you constantly have an irrational fear of this, even when the circumstance isn't present?

Yeah I suppose you are right if we are talking really huge like that stud Cyborg that chased Van Damme. But if looked at those videos (you might not have) you'd see those studs are big guys but not huge guys.

Many men (and women) think that no one should ever have fear - most especially a man facing off with another man. Most guys would never express a worry like I have so this is not something people really talk about. To admit fear probably means you will never get pussy again in your life.

Maybe or maybe not. On one hand I think no, and it's rational, on the other hand I think sometimes others might think I think about violence to often.

There is not a day that I don't think about violence. In fact I think about violence on some level, throughout the day, almost as much as I think about sex.

I also live around lots of young felons and people enamored by violence. So, in that sense I think my concern is rational. But then even felons are often times lazy people who would rather talk about f***ing somone up rather than actually training to do it.

See, that's the thing, to me it is always present. The next "war" is always around the corner.

I keep trying to get my big muscled uncle to do some training with me. He keeps telling me, "In a few weeks," but you know that story. He's a battle hardened dude from the streets and prison and has fought multiple opponents numerous times. I'm awed by his experience and battle stories - of course I'm nothing of him in that sense. My uncle thinks about violence pretty often too I would think. He's in his 50's and he still spars without gloves and wrestles with wild ass 30 somethings year olds, just to keep his reflexes and timing on.

You see... in the boxing ring if you get knocked down or out a person does not drop down on your head with his knees. But in the streets they can and may well do so. You see that in that first video. I worry about things like that.

That's why my uncle tells me a fight should not last 3 minutes. Maim the person or persons and move onward he tells me.

It's true -- many people wouldn't admit to being afraid of fighting someone else. But that doesn't mean they're unafraid. Everyone, at the very least, would get nervous in that situation.

The fact that you live in an area that has a lot of violence definitely has a lot to do with your fear. I'm sure you think about violence more often than others since you're exposed to it more often. You think about what you see. That's natural. And seeing people getting pummeled would naturally instill a fear in you. I don't fear fighting others much because I've been sheltered and haven't seen much violence. I went to private schools and lived in a decent neighborhood. I fear rumors more than actual violence.

So, in your situation, your fear is probably rational.

Don't get me wrong, I don't see people getting beaten up everyday, actually it would be a rare thing for me to see. And I'm sure you already know this, but you can grow up in a quite or decent rural area, but grow up steeped in violence if say your father is an abusive alcoholic who beats your mother, you, or the both of you while in a drunken state.

one of the most violent and abusive things I've ever read about happened to a small boy, in a house of hell, in some small fuckin town in bum fuck Wisconsin.

But yes, I agree with you that your environment does influence you. I'd be a more smiley person if I came up around more smiley fucking people. Eh! urban life has given me an appreciation for Mexican porn so I guess I should toast to that. =D>

My father used to fight often, and he never told me of his fear. But then again he lived in one of Detroit's worst neighborhoods and he came to realize that the streets either make you or break you. So in short, my father became a monster. I remember him telling me that for about a year in his life he fought almost everyday, and if not everyday, everyweek. His response to fear or violence was to get angry, and so when he was out in the streets he was always angry. He didn't know fear, and he tells me that any man that isn't afraid is either a fool or truly insane. He once told me that he stood in front of a gun, without fear, for he only knew anger. Fear is natural, Writ. Had some of my father's friends been more fearful, I think many of them would still be alive. Fear creates caution, and a man without either of them is a very dangerous person. I know fear, but I don't fear any man. I fear to lose. I hate losing with a passion, losing (particularly in a fight) is something that I both fear and loathe. But I don't run from anybody, and I never will. Just like my father, my response to fear or violence is anger, a terrible anger, and it doesn't let up. If I fight, I fight until I die or until the other person is dead or too weak or afraid to fight me. That is how much I both fear and hate to lose. So, I guess, Writ that I understand your fear.

I'm surprised Sam hasn't posted in here as yet.
