Question Writers block, or something else! What to do?

At the beginning of this year I was in a car accident, I had some head injuries. It did not seem to affect me. I pretty much came home from the hospital, with a good prognosis from the doctors, after countless tests being transported in to a wall; I was told all was well….but it is not….
Its little things, I have noticed. I go to type a word, I know the word I want, but I can’t locate it in my inner vocabulary. It is really scary, I have always had wit. Punctuation, I never had to think about it, I just knew what works, and what doesn’t. I can’t focus, to write, I get so frustrated.
I have not told Carlos, he always loved my beautiful mind, as he put it he started saying that after that movie with Russell Crow. I shared every word I wrote with him. I am seriously thinking of giving up writing.
I can’t center my thoughts, they are in my head, but I can’t seem to get them down on paper. Work is becoming hard. My staff really takes care of things, I more or less oversee, the day to day functions of the hotel. Lately I am just winging it. I suppose I should go back to the DR. but I don’t out of fear. I take ten to twelve Ibuprofens every day. I am not seeking pity. I bring this to my fellow authors asking them advice. What would you do?

10 to 12 Ibuprofens a day?

Get your ass back to the doctor.

You are having major headaches, you can't write, you're having difficulty finding words, you can't focus on work, and your scared to tell your boyfriend (or partner or spouse, I don't know what your relationship is).

In other words, there's something up. Go find out what.

If you have suffered a brain injury (which is possible) you need to find out the extent of it, whether it is an an acute (meaning getting worse) or chronic condition, and what you can do about it.

You can rehab your brain. My stepmother had to after a car accident, but the longer you leave it, the worse it may get and the harder it will be.

I say again, get your ass back to the doctor.

Make an appointment today and post to say you've done it so we won't worry about you.

Erik is right on. Where will fear get you? It won't change an injury so you need to get that looked at. Also, that many ibuprofen are dangerous. You can irritate the lining of your G.I. tract to the point where you have internal bleeding. Yes, I do mean to scare you because it's true. I nearly lost my husband that way.

If Carlos loves only your mind instead of the person that you are that is a shame. I doubt it's true.

Don't let fear stop you, R.R. Get this taken care of, please. Some things you can't fix by yourself.

*hugs*

How old are you?

Were there injuries to the left side of your head near the ear?

I know, I am going to make an appointment, with the neurologist, I am sure Carlos would be very supportive, it is probably my own pride…more than anything, I brought this to my peers hoping to confirm what I knew. Thanks

Thank you! I am going to tell Carlos today, and take a leave of absence from work, letting my assistant take over for a little while, I do have enough sick leave money is not the issue. I really like your no punches pulled approach….

Thank you all so much, I will be ok, that’s why I brought this to you!

You might find that you're just getting older, but no doubt if that is the case you'll only be making yourself worse by stressing about having some brain disorder. Best get it checked, even to just get an all clear and realise you are fading away gracefully. At least you won't be stressed if that is the case, and can shoplift happily knowing that you are losing your mind to the onset of old age.

It's possible the neurologist will say there are very minor lesions to parts of the brain called Broca's area and Wernicke's area, which play an important role in vocabulary and grammar. (I say "very minor" lesions because if you'd taken any serious damage there, you'd be noticing a lot more very strange side-effects! Google them if you're interested, there's a lot of information out there.)

If this is the case, then the good news is that your intelligence and memory are almost certainly unaffected, and once you stop worrying about the possibility of brain damage, you should find that you can do your job as well as before--but you'll probably continue to struggle to find exactly the word you want for the rest of your life.

Do go to a neurologist.

Personally, sometimes I think we are stronger than we think. And medicine only works for so long before you have to double to dosage. So like has been said, get the problem looked into - we never truly know how much we can endure until someone else does it.

But I believe that everyone has a "beautiful mind" and who cares what other's think. I mean, you're still you aren't you? What else matters? People don't just stop caring about someone, and besides telling him will only help the situation, give you his support.

And one other thing, we are here to help. That is why people use this page, so don't be afraid to post random comments, we can help you make sense of them.

Take care,

feel free to be free!

Thank you Pete! I really enjoy your posts; you have an eloquent way of putting things. You are correct I don’t need to worry needlessly. Perhaps it is only old age….
