Why do we write?

Why DO we write? I am quite serious about this. What is it that impels us to transform our thoughts into the written word?

Why is the sky blue? Why is grass green? Why do we have legs instead of wheels? What is, is, and I am a writer. I could be no other way.

Egad. My eyes are starting to scrinch up. You're younger than me and can keep going longer (or you live in a different time zone. Black Forest? Ha!) but I need my beauty sleep. I'm outta here. ttfn.

I write because I love Art in all it's forms. This is the next medium I have decided to work with and hope to succeed with.

It's a lot more organized and linear than keeping a story in your head.

Welll......... lol... in a nutshell

I write to get them out of my head... people, their lives their dreams, I put them down on paper with pen, their constant bickering drives me nuts. I'm not really insane, but their voices come alive at the most inopportune time, and I have to write it down.... it's why I write, and when I read what I write, its actually not so bad.... I dont share yet... to nervous about that.. but working towards it.

Shy attention-seekers, wanting the world to look at them without actually looking at them.

or

Power-hungry people without the forcefulness to take control of a nation, acting out their fantasies of control by running the lives of fictional characters instead of real people.

or

People who feel they have something important to say.

or

People who are too ugly to be film stars.

I guess, like everything, it's individual. Sometimes I think that if I didn't write, didn't get the inside out, it would just build and build, until one day I'd be walking down the street and my eyes would bug out, my face would go red, and I'd just burst like a popcorn kernel. I wonder if words would roll down the street or if it would just be a gooey mess of expired biology.

The next logical question is why don't we write? In those moments when we could, when we know it's in us to do it, but we deny the moment. That's the one that's got me.
