I have a curious mind
NOT THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ME or anything but let's just say you happened to be driving for about 15 mins (not sure the amount of miles) at an average of 40mph, with your emergency break on the entire time. And you pulled over after taking off your e break and there was a LOT of smoke and stuff and you accidentally put on your windshield wipers and couldn't figure out how to turn them off (so now you're in a car emitting large amounts of smoke with your windshield wipers going on a perfectly sunny day.....i.e. you look crazy). And you waited for a few seconds, then continued on your way because your movie started in 8 minutes. Now let's say someone in front of you slowed down to make a left so you tried to slow down too...and nothing happened. The break had no resistance and you had to go around the person to avoid hitting them.
Is that normal?
And should you get new breaks? If not, should you tell your father you just raped his car's break pad? Or will he never notice? And if he does, how much do you think he'd charge you for new breaks?
Again, I'm just wondering....I was never in this situation....
Oh, but since I'm asking completely random irrelevant questions (heh, heh), what on earth is the point of this smiley? *is confused
edit: I should probably mention that after that first incident where the breaks didn't work, they worked ok. A little loose, but ok. I mean...let's just say they did...

Oh Joelle, hahaha.. Great story.
I'll try and make a more helpful post in a few hours, but right now I've got to get to work. Just wanted to applaud that.

hahah oh it's a great story NOW. Never mind the horror at the time. To add to it, I wasn't paying attention to where I was going anymore, missed my turn, and wound up in some poor random person's driveway with a smoking car and my windshield wipers going...AND I was 10 minutes late for the movie...

It means you've just fucked up your car's brakes and possibly the rotor as well (if you have disc brakes) and need to have them replaced.

Umm….if a car is sufficiently modern to have four-wheel discs (which it would have in your scenario, as the emergency works on the rear wheels) it would surely also have a “brake on” warning light or buzzer, and that would make the entire Joelle scenario unfeasible. Unless of course she is a COMPLETE klutz.

Well Joelle, considering the fact that I might know someone who might have done something similar I can add this:
Once the break is released, it takes a while for the break fluid to be distributed evenly again and while this is happening your breaks won't work at their normal capacity, so you will need to apply more pressure to get your car to come to a full stop.
After a few hours though, you won't be found out (at least my friend never was. )

Possibly Hodge may step in and tear my reasoning asunder, however the last time I looked the emergency brake uses a system of cables to activate the brake shoes/discs, and has absolutely nothing to do with brake fluid, which DOES rely on Boyle's Law about distribution of pressure evenly through a medium, for its effect. The two systems are entirely independent of each other.

There might have been a light. There was no buzzer, which is BULL, since buzzers usually get my attention.
And yes, for the record, I am a complete klutz.
My dad didn't say anything though...so I think the brakes are back to normal?

You should probably say something. What if his brakes fail on him? I can't imagine that'd be a good scenario.

Ten miles.
So, how do you feel about your father? Subconciously?
