How much do you read?

On average, how many novels do you get through in a year? I've been keeping a reading diary since June of last year, and have read 36 novels to this day (ranging from 135 to 510 pages). Just interested as to how my reading habbits compare with others'.

Do you mean pages? Because if you mean words, you haven't been reading novels, you've been reading flash fiction.

I don't read for pleasure much at the moment. Too much to do. I used to always be reading, though, and have a bookshelf full of things I've read.

I do not read particularly fast, and with a 3 yr old and 3 week old I am short on time. But if I am not reading something I am going through withdrawal. Reading really is an addiction.

I usually take about a week or two to read an average length book of 300 to 400 pages. Sometimes longer. And I usually have two or three books going at once. A fiction and nonfiction at least.

I have no life beyond reading, writing, and school. Thus, I get through at least 45 a year. Mostly, I reread books, because I also have no way of getting to the library on a regular basis.

When I'm actually having plenty of inspiration for my novel in progress (which amounts to maybe once in my lifetime) I only average 35-40 a year.

My god, I don't keep count and I certaintly don't read as many as you guys do, lol.

My average novel is between 400 pages and 1000 pages, occasionally more. I've just started reading The Time Traveler's Wife, which is 518 pages. It will take me between a week and three weeks, because I mainly read on the train to and from work. The last novel I read was 300 pages, but I managed to only read it in a day as I was sick.

The novels I read usually vary in size, but I always try to buy the biggest one I can, so I get more for my buck. I typically hit the bookstore once a week, and buy 2 or 3 books, novels or non-fiction usually. Sometimes I get busy and it takes a little bit longer to read than normal, but I usually keep that "schedule." Of course, if I finish a book early, I hit the bookstore that day. Although, when I spend time on here, I read less. =/

I am a slow reader. During the summer I read more. Last summer I probably read 20ish books. I should keep a diary too. I do keep a box of books I have read, so I don't get confused. I have three rather large boxes full of box I have read over the last two or three years.

I don't read. I feel it would hurt me as a writer.

I don't keep score, but I think I read about 15 books last year, but they were mostly about 900 pages each, and I usually only have time to read when I go to bed, and then I fall asleep after only a few pages. It can be annoying to fall asleep when the book is good, but I don't complain because not being able to fall asleep is worse.

To improve in your writing, expand your vocabulary and see different styles of writing, don't you have to read? Even a little?

To read is a good thing. But I am always very busy with loads of things. I don't know how all you can get so lots of time to read? A few books in my majoral field is enough making me confused and depressed. How to get more time to read other books which are not related to my field.

I read erratically. I might read ten books in one week (I'm a very fast reader, which is a curse when a good book is over too soon) and then none for two. I just go to the library and pick out what I fancy, even if it's only based on the picture on the cover, fiction and non.

On my bedstand at the moment are... "Rebecca" by Daphne Du Maurier, "Phenomonen" by Sylvia Brown, "Teach yourself to be a Travel Writer," by Can't Remember, "Around the World in 80 days" by Michael Palin and "The Sinner" by Tess Gerritsen.

Some are re-reads, some are to learn, some are just for escapism.

Howmuch reading per year

At the moment spending all my time writing for my website. Which is great but leaves me wih any any time to read other books and supplements. It s such a burden that I am a bit desparate at the moment.

Since joining this forum, it has been non stop to try to add articles on a regular basis.

No time for creature comforts
