Writing is our Savior?!?!?

I was looking at this new movie called Music and Lyrics By and I was wonderin if writing is the sanctuary to all of humanities problems.

I know this is an overexaggeration but essentially I am wondering if we had more people writing...be it good or bad...could this be a source of income for the people in need, could this increase the standard of education and could this help people with depression or mental illness?

I don't think so, no. Not everybody is a writer.

I think creative outlets in general are the sanctuary for human emotion. Since problems spur emotion, then yes, in a way. But that is not to say that creative outlets always solve problems, or have an answer, but they certainly help, rather than hurt.

On the subject of income and education: You cant force publishers to publish books they dont think will make money and you certainly cant force someone to learn things. So, no. Writing will not save the world by making financial equality, and though it can (and usually does) teach a lot to those willing to listen, and frees the thoughts of those who care to read, there's still millions who simply choose not to read.

Writing helps some people, and certainly shared experiences help even those who don't write. But our world is begining to discourage the mass of it all, and focusing only on a few "famous" shared experiences, distorting everything.

It would increase people's writing abilities, if nothing else.

Certain kinds of writing can help certain people deal with depression (are you thinking "feeling depressed" or clinical depression?) and certain mental illnesses. But you have to be careful. If the type of writing you ask her to do isn't her type of writing then it isn't going to be helpful and it may actually make the problem worse. And some people simply don't process things by writing about them.

Writing is not a cure-all for all people. It certainly helps but it doesn't necessarily cure anything.

For instance, I know it helps with grief--does not cure the symptoms nor does it fix the cause.
