Tactical Advantage

As a writer, what is your method for composing your stories? Do you plan for three years, getting everything perfect? Do you set general guidlines, and let the rest flow? Or do you free-write?

I'm a planner. I plan out everything, right down to character histories and (being a fantasy writer) all the prominant physical abilities and attributes. I get the story set in stone, and write with minimal free-form. It can be a chore at times, but I like to have a firm grasp of where I am in the book. Having the basic story already planned gives me time to focus on the minutai.

How about you?

Just go with the flow. If I plan then I get bored of the story for I feel I am writing to fill a space. I need some free space that I can fill with creative genius

I'm more of a planning type person. Usually, when I write a chapter, I know what's going to happen. It does change sometimes though. I also tend to think of random things that need to happen at some point in the story.

Sometimes, I wish I didn't know everything that was going to happen, because it makes it a little bit harder...but I can't really help it. So I have to deal with it...
