just went to the only other really good writer's site on the web [writer community] and found that you now have to SUBSCRIBE to their magazine, to be able to post anything on the site!... how fleepin' greedy can you get!...

i monitored that site daily for years, dispensing help/info/advice there as i do here and occasionally posting a new work to test it, as i also do here... i'd been avoiding it lately, due to its taking forever to load pages, just checked again to see it was 'healed' and found it loaded just fine... but you now have to buy a subscription to their rag in order to log on!

so, this is now the only totally free writer's site of real quality and substance on the net!

Sorry, that's been in my head lately. This is quite... validating. I, in fact, was considering getting an account on writer community until this startling revelation. Hopefully this site doesn't become corporate.

then, how do you explain how well this site works, when it's a free one?... and the problem with loading seemed to be mine alone, since all the other members said they hadn't noticed it...

Ooh... on that topic, the staff members have discussed and decided to begin charging a $4.95 monthly fee for posting privileges. We're certain this will be an improvement to the site, not a hinderance.

I don't know. I usually have loading issues with this site several times a day. And some people have bigger budgets to work with. And judging from Chrispian's list of sites, it doesn't seem to be an issue for him.

Chris mentioned at some point that it cost him about $100 a month to uphold the site, and that the googleads brought about a $25 revenue. I've had trouble with loading perhaps twice, and both times the problem went away within a few hours.

he's a prince!... i'm sure he must be making up the difference elsewhere, but it doesn't take away from his generosity in maintaining this site... i can only hope this bread cast on the water comes back to him one hundredfold...

hey, if i could post anything over at that 'other' one, i'd tell everyone to come over here!... they had a much higher age average, which was a nice change from here and one of the reasons i enjoyed the site...

i'm hoping someone from there will tout this one to all who are unhappy with the changes there...

Please read the posting guidelines before posting though.

It is an online workshop rather than an 'airing' forum. Put in the work, you get it back, that simple.

as for the site you recommend, i'm sure it's a fine one, if you say so, but it's only for poetry... i'm referring to 'broad spectrum' sites that cover all the various breeds of writer...
