as your critiques are so good...

i was wondering whether anyone here would like to critique my deviantart work, as i feel that a lot of my good friends here at WF have a good, down to earth and kind-yet-professional way of critiquing - and i'm a newbie on dA so i would prefer some of my existing mentors to take a look...

thanks!

I know nothing about art so would not be able to critique. But I will say I was impressed.

Between Heaven and Hell

**********This photography is wonderfully positioned and is beautifully taken. And once altered, it seems even more jaw-dropping.

My Alter-Ego

**********Though quite foreboding, it is another good picture you have done. I'm not the fondest of the positioning, but it has been done well.

Tom's Album

**********Done very well. Nice job.

The Tree Tunnel

**********I like it. Mysterious and yet somehow tranquil...

Emily And Her World

**********Much like The Tree Tunnel. Nicely done.

Attention to Detail

**********Very well done. And she is quite pretty.

A Weeping Rose

**********Beautiful and so peaceful. Wonderful.

Flattery always gets smiles as well as friendship. I'm off to critique any and all of your recent works...

I have to admit I am know critic of art work, I know who I like but that comes from living with fine art students at Uni.

The only thing I would say is that you need to find your own voice, of course this can take a lifetime but the journey can be interesting. I am especially keen on the potential of the girl caught in the wind, some more definition would have been great in that piece particularly.

I love Escher, Liechtenstein, Mapplethorpe, Erte, Lalique, Frans Hals, Claude Lorrain, Caravaggio, Tintoretto, Henri Matisse, to name but a few.

Where do you draw your inspiration from?

londongrey - caught me. I know nothing. No inspirations, no knowledge of conventions - just a guy with a lot of time on his hands

still, i'm only 17 and hopefully i'll develop my voice at university.

thanks,

kin

If I can make a reading suggestion:

The Story of Art by E. H. Gombrich published by Phaidon.

It is considered the cornerstone to an introduction to the field of art and will inspire you in so many ways. My partner read it when doing his Masters Degree in Victorian Art and Architecture. I'm still only on page 507, lol, its a long book. Check it out.

Also check out the works of Escher and Liechtenstein, they are good introductions to perspective in art and will also inspire.

Good luck and keep at it, your work is already taking great shape.

Despite taking art subjects for six years in school, and still having a love for art, I'm not very good at critiquing at all. Got a mix of favourite artists though - Warhol, Escher, Cindy Sherman, Gentileschi (the daughter), Stellac...
