Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

Well,

I have just finished the book and have to say it was well worth waiting for. After reading where this story has gone now I am in even more awe of J K Rowlings talent for connecting so many story lines with a complete history into one book.

If you fans haven't started or haven't finished this book, hurry up!!!!

Very very pleased.

Oh no, you complemented JK's writing talents. The only think you could've done worse on this site is complement Dan Brown...

Tom Clancy would be worse than J.K. Rowling.

Thank god!

I thought I was the only one sickened by the bewildering success of JKR, and the willingness of otherwise sane adults to laud childrens' books whilst totally ignoring more deserving authors.

Let's hope this is her last book.

It's already been confirmed that she's writing a seventh Harry Potter book. Sorry; I feel your pain. She's a terribly overrated author.

Yeah, but the seventh is the last though, or so it should be...

Rowling and her fans will write many, many spin-offs of the series, believe me. There's no way she will miss on this opportunity to cash in as much as possible.

Well for those that don't like her, this is what I have to say: she is taking the money to the bank, and more people of all ages love her and her work than those that don't.

Those that bought the book, did you get the gift bracelet too? I was given one in green. I also bought the 2006 calendar.

Think this is a lady that deserves all she is getting.

It's not that I don't like her. It's that she receives far, far, more praise than she deserves. The two most acclaimed writes of the 21st century thus far are most likely J.K. Rowling and Dan Brown. It is pathetic that this is the best the world can muster (it's not, I know; there are hundreds of superior writers out there, but that seems to be what many people think).

I was given the green bracelet, and from Barnes & Noble, a poster. For the kiddies, B&N also had Harry eyeglasses and lightning-bolt scar tattoo.

Naturally, several sets of this stuff are already popping up on eBay... and, as in 2003, the empty cartons with the "Do Not Open Til" date are also up for bids!

Oh, yeah, almost forgot -- I also got the book. Started it at 1 AM, and by magnum iter finished it around 3:30 PM. ("Couldn't put it down.") It's another winner. No, I wasn't wearing the wristband.

I'm wearing the bracelet. *giggles* I wanted a red one, but they only had green. I think thats the only color they made.

I just wish she would use some of her $1 billion to set up grants for better writers who can't get published.
Er...

Rowling is contributing time and money by the millions to Comic Relief, National Council for One Parent Families, MS Society Scotland, Amnesty International, and who knows how many others. Two of her books are 100% for charity.

MiloDaePesdan is an unknown quantity at this point
JKR is envied by many. For one thing, some just can't believe how immensely popular her books have become. To her fans, her crafted world is immersive, a deep ocean that they can drown in if they wanted to.

I envy her not for her success, but for worldbuilding. And dangling suspense like a carrot before a donkey.

(Well, at least she's promoting reading and writing indirectly.)

But when you get down to it, you'll find that the reason it's so popular is that people like it. Sure she's overrated, but people still like it. Can't change that now, eh?

I'm not planning on reading any until she finishes the series. Not a big mistake, as I don't want to be taken hook, line, and sinker on this, as a few other series have done. Unlike Rowling, I'm limited on cash.
