On Poetry

I read this quote today and thought I'd share:

Poetry is the spontaneous overflow of powerful feelings: it takes its origin from emotion recollected in tranquillity.

Just remember, the "recollected in tranquility" part is as important as the "powerful feelings" part.

Poetyr may often be that -- it is a well expressed idea, but not my approach. I write conceptual poetry without strong emotive content.

The diversity of the medium is its strength. Or one of many, I should say. Coleridge definitely takes the metaphorical cake, though.
