A Question Regarding Marriage
In Canada and the United States, are priests aloud to refuse to marry someone based on their race?

Thanks for the confirmation. Ah, yes, thanks for clarifying what I was asking - I was asking whether religious belief could trump discrimination based on race.

hmm, I was just looking at the rephrase of that question..and I have to wonder if perhaps it could. I have to amend my previous answer to, 'not that I've ever heard of.'
Now, I'm not 100% sure, but I think both sides would have one hell of a legal fight on their hands if anyone cared to take it that far.
Anything where law and religion clash gets sticky.
It'd be an easy enough for the religion to claim 'other reasons'..and then the laws hands are tied.

Refusing marriage because of race is illegal on paper, but I believe a priest has the right to refuse to perform a ceremony on any grounds, because the ceremony is optional.

allowed by whom/what?... by their church, or by local/state/federal law?...

right... that is a current bone of contention in the states, too... and will no doubt work its way up to canada, if not here already...
the bush bunch's proselytizing their rigid christian beliefs is making stuff like this seep into every facet of life, it seems... separation of church and state went the way of waging war only on those who actually attacked you...
i wouldn't be surprised to see marriage between races suddenly be against the bible again, too... wasn't too long ago that had been finally made 'ok' either... there's another current to-do over whether gays should be allowed to adopt or foster poor parent-needing kids... in texas, o' course... where else!?
