Mulberry Bush time again - American men
What’s wrong with heterosexual American men?
They’re always talking about getting laid.
Which to my way of thinking sounds very like someone else is in charge of what happens. It's an extremely subjective remark, and ultimately a put-down of manhood.
As far as I’m aware, the female of the species (American) doesn’t speak of getting laid. Nor do heterosexual males from other countries. British and Australian men talk in terms of “having a (insert noun of choice)” or “(insert verb of choice)ing someone”.
So, what's wrong with American men? Are they all wimps at sex?

I believe you've got the general usage the term wrong. In the context in which it is most often used, it's not a positive. Examples:
"He's never been laid."
"He's just trying to get laid."
'She's an easy lay."
Not many men say, "Hey, I got laid last night!" And using the term in conversation with a woman, as in "How would you like to get laid," might result in a black eye. And women do use the term -- in the manner of the examples I've given. Again, not something positive.
I know it's a little subtle. Remember, making assumptions about America based on movies and television isn't always a good idea.

Actually, I made the assumption based on what one of your almost-neighbours said:

Well, it is an assumption. But it also proves my point. This is not a positive context. And by all means, let's characterize millions on the bases of an off-hand comment on a writing forum.

But Joseph, think of all the fun assumptions we could make about Aussie men based on Ox.

All Aussie men are curmudgeonly ex-cab drivers who live in hollow trees with internet connections?

In all honesty, you are not the first Aussie male I've heard state something like this about American men. I remember an Asian Aussie (the fuckin guy use to get on my nerves too - but not you Ox at least not yet ) that use to berate Asian-American males on an Asian forum for constantly being depressed, broken, and whining about Asian women in the U.S. preferring white men and or black men.
(I tell ya... them Asian-Americans and Mexican-Americans don't get along either )
But some Aussies I recall berated American males for their lack of mateship or some shit like that. Basically some of them said American men don't stick together but attack one another.
I think things were a bit different in the days of Jimmy Hoffa. Probably better and probably worse. But whatever... they are different today for better or worse.
The most harsh women in the U.S. you might run into - generally speaking that is because it doesn't apply to every individual - are Black-American women.
Man, affects still scorch my soul from the many berating I took, especially as a young Marine by many young, black, women on welfare. You want to talk about a cold and harsh experience, even white racist cats never treated me that mean and hatefully. Of course many of these women were having sex, they can have as much sex as they want and from as many guys as they want.
I dunno, guys that are mean and thuggish, or have lots of money, don't really experience this problem from young Black-American women. Again, I'm generalizing and not talking about individuals.
I've spent time around White-Americans, but a lot less time around them, so I have an idea about them but it's not as formed and informed on the culture as is with Black-America.
There are plenty of crackhead black women in my neighborhood. Some real ruthless, cunning, and mean bitches (like some that were extorting some white business man threating his life or physical ability to move well again ). Of course if they have kids they can't take care of them. But here's the thing. These women will always be viewed as "strong black women" and I will always be viewed as "a piece of shit." When you understand that you understand everything about the United States and you understand everything about Black-America.
Unlike my father who is retired law enforcement and *extremely* angry, I plan on eventually leaving the country.

Sorry, all American men. I've disgraced us by using the word "laid" to describe my lack of sex these last few months. Forgive me.

Back in the day all of my friends and I referred to it as getting laid. It was usually as a joke or making fun of someone. But I don't remember anyone dancing around because they got laid.
Ya know a stereo type of Aussie Men I have? That they are rude, pompous, and treat women horribly. I have only met six Aussie Men but they were all the same and annoyed me horribly.

Yes! Dated mid-90's terminology pulled from an online forum does indeed mean that American men are wimps when it comes to sex. Good call!

I remember the thread where we were making fun of the Brits for having small dicks and drinking tea. *sigh* That was fun humor right there.
(P.S. The news story about East Indian men having penises to small for regular condoms is much funnier however)

Hate to break it to you Ox, but not only do Aussie men use 'laid', so do Aussie women - and generally in a similar context as JosephB clarified earlier.

The terminology has been around for decades, maybe longer. But as far as your comment about American men being wimps when it comes to sex.....if you watch TV and movies, you would think so. TV tries to portray men as soft, pretty boys who worry more about how they look than whether or not they 'score' (another annoying term). Like, what IS a 'metrosexual male?'
The world is trying to make men effeminate. No offense to the gay guys on here.
I don't know about modern women--maybe they want someone like them--but I always wanted a man who acted like a man, not a girl.
I guess I've been around these Tennessee rednecks too long.
