It is hard for me to imagine how long it must have taken people to access answers to questions when they were curious about something, before the internet.
I suspect they went to a library

Damien, you're in good company. In real life, I avoid people if possible. Social recluse, antisocial, whatever. But it's easier to communicate with people online, I feel. This is partially because (this is probably in my head, but whatever) people discriminate against me for being youg and female. I'm a teenage girl; obviously I can't be thinking about anything but boys and makeup. I hate that! With the anonymity of the internet, I don't have to worry about that, and I can be more frank and honest with people blowing me off like a fly.

Anyway. That's just how I feel. Probably doesn't help or anything.

Sparky, if you were to reveal you weren't just an immature girl chasing after the boys, there'd be boys out there who, for definite, would appreciate you sooo much more and would love you for it. In Scotland (my home), there are neds and goths (major generalization). Neds tend to be complete arses. Senseless fights, senseless gang wars, aggrivated far too easily and abuse others without thought. Goths can do the latter, however they tend to be alot more open minded and "themselves".

I don't know if it's like that where you are, but those people who are open minded would accept you with open arms - and you'd run into their arms with joy I'm sure. They love it when they find out some people have a personality.

Anyway, enough of the preaching. Perhaps you already know all of this - I'm sorry if you do. Um, I'm not alot more social because of the Internet, however it has changed me. I am alot more calmer. I am nicer. I think more clearly. I tend not to get angry or hate. Real life, however, is different. I don't like the Internet too much, but I'm addicted to it, and it's how I met my current fancy-girl so I guess I'm on good terms with it.

I'm afraid the truth is I'm just too shy to aproach people. I'm an observer of people. It tends to go like this: New person shows up; I either like them instantly or don't; either way, I watch them, trying to judge their character; eventually, I come to the conclusion that my first impression was right or wrong, but it doesn't really matter. I'm probably not going to talk to them anyway. The few people who have tried to get to know me are women or older guys.

Ah, that really has nothing to do with anything. Just ignore me.

I love the internet, but it is a burden. Sometimes i feign illness to avoid going pub with my friends just so i can lie on my bed browsing the world wide web.

And Damien, you're not stupid and unneeded. I can see a number of people here enjoy having you around.
Jealousy.

Sparkmuffins I generally do the same thing. Once I actually approached someone I liked. Once in all of my existence. His name was Alex. He played the guitar and had a pretty face. All my other friends have approached me or I had to work with them on a project or something.

So Dam', prepared for today's war?

I think people are more apt to be their worse selves online. Just browse comments on youtube. mean, mean, mean. Try and find some fun and uplifting people you can chat with. Go in some rooms and strike up conversations with people you have things in common with. On forums and in comment sections, people can post something nasty and run, not giving a second thought that they may have hurt someone.

I think I'm much more confrontational in person. The advantage of the internet is I can write something really mean and childish and then read it and realize "this is too mean and too childish" then hit backspace and write something else. I need that option LIVE, I can be a bit mouthy.

I would settle for a pause-button or a decent screen saver.

Oh, yeah, I'd want the clock screensaver because I can't keep a watch.
