Brits Behaving Badly
Supposedly intoxicated Brits on vacation are quite rambunctious. How come I don't ever get to see any drunk Brit chicks flashing their tits in bars?
Apparently the United States arrests plenty of Brits for fighting and being disorderly. Other countries arrest Brits too.
So, what's going on with you British people, tired of people making wisecracks about your Queen or something? J/K.

Just bringing our culture to the rest of the world, my friend, to the rest of the world. The thugs and the drunkards are unfortunately rife, even if they are still in the minority, albeit only just.

If you've ever been to Cyprus, Lanzarote or Napa, you'd be hard pressed not to think it's the majority. It's British culture, I'm afraid. We used to go on holiday and subject the previous occupants to imperialistic tyranny, so count yourself lucky.
On another note, In many more family oriented places, especially around Europe, the British are the preffered guest. Polite, jolly and more likely to make an effort with language than other English speaking countries (that will remain unnamed), certainly better than the Germans, who are the universally hated tourists of Europe.

I consider myself reasonably qualified to comment on the subject raised by the OP, because I live abroad in a venue frequented by British people (and Germans) both as residents and holidaymakers.
It goes back a bit, Writ, to when we ruled the world, when we ruled your country, when a tiny outpost of our outcasts tried educate the backward natives. We weren't th only ones, the Spanish, French, Dutch and Germans were trying to do the same thing, and none of them succeeded, what followed was a nation of people who didn't know where they came from, Europe, Africa, Mexico – or Mongolia.
The UK is a tiny nation of fighters. It's in our blood. It's in the German's blood too, but they're more polite than we are. They'll give you a second's warning, before kicking your head in, the Brits won't, and the Americans will want a decision from congress first.

They (in my experience) seem to believe that their money buys servitude, rather than service. In fighting, perhaps they are more polite. I've found that in holidaying, they're quite rude. To be fair, the Poles, Greeks, French, Dutch, Belgians etc. have other reasons to dilike German tourists. However, I've found them to be not well received in Italy or Spain either.

The most popular holiday resorts for Germans are Italy and Spain. You can complicate matters by exploring historical reasons, and there might be some truths in that. Their next favourite holiday destination is Florida.
If you can work that one out, your prejudices will roll off your shoulders.

I'm not being prejudiced. I'm just saying, in my honest opinion, and only from the Germans I've met, and seen, they tend to be fairly clipped and impolite when regarded against other tourists. It's probably just a cultural difference, and might not matter in Germany. I know a bloke named Roffy, who runs a Eurocamp in southern France. Any Dutch people who visit make it clear to him that they aren't German before they settle in. He turns the power off on Germans and refuses them service in the bar. In regards to the Florida thing, Florida is a hot place, full of tourist attractions. There aren't any real historical biases either. I can hardly see Germans queueing up for Eurodisney.
Americans seem to me to be very polite tourists (once again, in my experience), but god bless 'em, they don't exactly blend in.

My brother worked at a resort in Alaska last summer, and he said the Japanese tourists were by far the worst to deal with.

My sister lives in Milan. She will tell you that Germans -- hands down -- are the most obnoxious tourists.

Mind you, Joe, experience tells me that the British aren't a cakewalk on holiday either. But maybe that's just because they love their football so much. Hell, I love it too, but the Irish aren't reputed for being hoodlums during football matches quite as much as the Brits are.
But, yes, the Germans are probably the worst.
Americans, I don't have a problem with. Well, one. The Yanks seem to always say they can drink a Mick under the table. From personal experience, of course. But, sorry, ain't gonna happen.
Nobody drinks more beer per annum (per capita) than the Irish - FACT. Still, I don't know why I'm bragging about this. It's not a good thing.

I'm surprised to be back again, it's 3am here, but it's too hot to sleep. Should that be three-am? No, it's three in the morning. Now, if Writ will forgive me, I'm going to meander away from his thread, because I'm a writer, so there.
My wife bought me the record – it's Four in the Morning – because that's when I used to come home, and I'll always remember the butterflies driving along the A127 on my way home.. I wasn't a totally bad person, sometimes I really was working late, but more often than not, I was out shagging.
But I loved those butterflies.
