Is anybody else obsessed with other languages?
Specifically, writing other languages, and music in languages?
Right now, I'm addicted to Jpop and Rammstein. Two different languages, which are not English.
Both of which I severely want to learn, and Japanese I am well on my way to learning. And to top it all off, I want to write a book in Japanese someday.
Please tell me I'm not the only one...

I'm obsessed with folk metal that's in Norwegian, Swedish, Finnish, etc.
I also write metal in Spanish, but it's not very good.

I'm not obsessed, but I'm interested in languages.

David Sedaris' new book has a hilarious segment on him living in Japan and learning the language while trying to kick a 20 year smoking habit.

Viking power.
I'm learning Italian, I find some words in it to be full of balls like Vongola(which means clam), if someone came up to me and said Vongola I'd think he is telling me he has done my girlfriend. I also like greek but it's a very edgy and square straightforward language, so I don't use it that much.

I'm more interested in theories about different aspects of language than specific languages themselves. I study linguistics at the University of Helsinki and I want to know everything about morphology, fonology, typology, syntax, pragmatics, social linguistics etc. It's kind of weird that I can spend dozens of hours trying to figure out something quite irrelevant to everyday speech but I don't get the same vibes from actually learning to speak different languages It has its own charm, of course.
My native tongue is Finnish and I've learned Swedish, English and French at school. At the university I've studied some Russian and Spanish and I have some passive German skills from when I studied it for two years in elementary school. I want to learn Welsh, Irish, Arabic, Swahili and Turkish.

My sister is obsessed with languages. She taught herself French and was speaking fluently by the time she was 15. She also speaks German, Italian, Spanish and Japanese. She's studying Arabic in her "free time."
She lives in Italy and is an English language professor at the University of Milan. She also contracts with Italian companies and tutors executives in English.

I went to Greek school as a small child and then did four years of Chinese at high school. I lived in Japan for 6 months and picked up a little bit of the language. I have a brain like a sieve though and have forgotten it all.
Lived in Paris for a year but got so pissed off at French men in general, I stopped trying to learn French, and then I spent 5 years in Germany. I speak good German. Been living in Kiev for a while now and speak bad Russian too.
I enjoy reading the instructions on various products and deciphering what they mean. In Europe everything is written in about four or five languages, so it's interesting to see where they all cross over.
Understanding even a little bit of a different language helps me to understand the roots of English. The origins and spread of language is a fascinating subject.
