I just read an interesting piece of trivia today that said of the 6000 languages used in the world today, in the next 100 years only 550 will survive. The other 5500 will be as dead as Latin. Loss of cultural diversity is a symptom of globalization.

I love Russian, I have a Russian movie collection, so I'm pretty much obsessed with it. I even swear in Russian.

Is it me or is learning how to swear in another language like having a new toy to play with?

Swear words and obscene phrases always seem to be the first thing you learn in another language. I remember stealing my mother's French phrasebook and looking up the section of phrases to use in the bedroom. I always thought it was funny, because the phrases always used the form of the word "you" that means you're speaking formally, or to more than one person. So either you're having sex with someone you hardly know, or with a group of people.

I can speak German moderately
I would love to learn Italian and French though
I enjoy listening to 'popera' sometimes and a lot of it is sung in various languages
Never written in them though - I'm bad enough trying to write in English hehe

I'd love to learn German, I know bits and pieces. I blame my wonderful grandmother translating Rammstein. And being German in general.
I don't like Italian.
