How would you feel about a reality show for writers?
Writers have a lot to say, a bunch of them on a show could provide an interesting premise.

I'm not for reality tv shows either, but a show full of writers? Methinks that it would most likely be a boring show, or perhaps not. But either way, I dislike reality tv, simply because it is so far from reality.

Keep this one under you hat, man, 'cause the networks would kill for an idea like this. Maybe a weekly writing contest -- and the losers have to leave the converted library where all the contestants live. Lots of great footage of folks banging away at laptops and having fist fights over voice and POV. It would be like a live version of "Tips and Advice."

I think everyone would be huddled in their own little corners. They'd never get any drama. Not much of a draw for people.
Now, if they forced them to work in teams, there'd be some action going on. I'd bet that a few might try to kill each other. But then it's not much of a draw for writers.

A reality show for accountants might work.

Watch them all try to micro-manage the others... Fights over that... Give them Enron's books or something like that, just so they have something to do.

It could be like that show Anonymous or whatever it's called, but instead of a bunch of people agreeing who's getting the money, they could be forced to write a story together. Then we just need a few different people like a horror writer, romance writer, comedy writer and so on. At least it can't get much worse than any other reality-show.

So something that has no creativity (reality TV) would have something that has creative people in it?
Wouldn't last a season, reality TV isnt about creativity its about crap.

There are some - very few, but some - reality shows on now with creative people. Project Runway requires some amount of creativity, so there's that.

Book Television televised 12 contestants who lived and worked in a bookstore during the course of the 3-Day Novel Contest (I think in Canada). I was bummed that I wasn't able to tune into that, since I thought the frenzied atmosphere of such a huge goal would be interesting to see.

There already is one. Not a reality show, but a talent show. It's been produced by Simon Cowell's brother, Robert, and it's due to be aired in the UK later on this year. I'm not entirely sure how it works, but it's something along the lines of this: every week there's a different genre and all the contestants have to write a story in that genre. The judges then decide what order the stories come in, and the bottom one is eliminated. Same as American Idol or X-Factor, just with writing. Should be interesting.

Reality sucks
If I liked reality, why would I be a writer?

I thought about that myself, but I don't think it would work. There's nothing to show. What would be in the show itself? A bunch of writers typing away on their keyboards or scribbling plot points in their notebooks? A reading of each person's work in order to judge? No one would ever watch it. Other creative shows, ones about singing, dancing, fashion designing, etc., have something interesting to show the audience throughout. Writing, unfortunately, does not. Only the finished product matters, and the finished product doesn't even matter to many people.
