I can speak for The Diving Bell and the Butterfly and say that it was amazing cinematically. Definitely one of my favorite movies of all time.

I was pleased all the way through Children of Men, until the running-through-the-city war scene, which as far as I remember was done in one take and, mostly for that reason, totally blew my mind.

What the hell does "pretending to be serious" mean? It confronted some pretty big issues and had some serious moments of violence and death. I thought it was a cut above other action movies in terms of complexity, but I suppose it's all opinion. I thought it was great, I was interested throughout the entire movie.

Damn...save for like, four, I haven't seen any of those.

Sweeney Todd was eh, as Depp was the only character worth watching.

United 93 is fucking brilliant, though. I can't believe I forgot that film. Add that to my list of cinematic juggernauts.

That wasn't one take. It was edited together to make it appear as if one take.

One take is the hammer scene in Old Boy.

Anyone see Babel? I was torn on that movie.

On one hand, there were moments of pure genius, and on the other, there were moments when I wanted to yell at the movie and scream, "HURRY THE FUCK UP!"

Thoughts on this movie?

What's Requiem for a Dream about? I like the title; it reminds me of Mozart.

Eh, as much as I love Johnny Depp, I hate it when celebrities fill singing roles in musicals-made-movies. I saw the Broadway play a few months after seeing the movie, and it really blew me away. Every character stays on stage the entire time, and they all play one of the instruments that make up the "orchestra." So those nine or so people do all of the singing, acting, and music playing. They were extremely talented.

That and the scene where he eats the octopus are two of my favorite movie moments of all time.

Oddly enough, that brings me full circle to a thought I had while reading the earlier parts of this post where the discussion was on 'the next batman villain'.

I was going through the batman villain list on wikipedia as I'm not all that familiar with them. The only one that fit for me in the context of the new movies; realistic, etc.; was the Mad Hatter. And as soon as I thought of pictures of the Mad Hatter, the first thing that popped into my head was:

With a big purple top hat.

So what you're trying to say is you want Johnny Depp's Willy Wonka character in the next Batman? Sign me up.
