Where My Vegetarians At?
Sometimes, I go back and read some of the really old posts on here. A few moments ago I came across this:

The reason I don't (usually, I know this thread reeks of hypocrisy now) is because I'm sympathetic to nihilism. Nevertheless, I'm curious as to why others think they can claim morality while devouring another being. If you are nihilist and accept selfishness as a means of existing, I can understand why you eat meat.

So, this prompted two questions. One, Dooga, 3 years later, are you still a vegetarian? Two, anyone else here one?

Not a chance, no way, no how, not ever. I like me some meat, the bloodier the better.
I've never been able to legitimize the idealogical vegetarian in my own mind. Health concerns, fine; issues with the meat producing industry, totally understandable. But based on an aversion to the consumption of living things? Don't get it.

Nah, I'm not a vegetarian. Same reason as edropus.
I do, however, really respect the fact that Dooga doesn't try to force his/her opinion on other people. I really hate how some vegetarians try to guilt-trip other people into becoming vegetarians.

I've been a vegetarian before (barring eggs and dairy) but it was because I was temporarily possessed with this crazy desire to be as healthy as I could.
I also used to run five miles a day but both of them are long gone.

Yep. Since I was seventeen. But I eat eggs, yogurt and cheese...and the occasional fishy, but I ask its permission first.

I started a thread here last year called "To eat, or not eat meat". I said that considering the agricultural industry is one of the major offenders in the global warming problem, shouldn't we consider eating less meat? The thread went on forever and I ended up reading so much on the subject, I decided to put my money where my mouth is and stopped eating red meat. I still eat fish and a bit of chicken though.

I've been a vegetarian for about two years now I think. I'm not a vegan though so I still eat eggs and dairy products.
Don't have much choise about eating meat, I suddenly realised I was putting a charred corpse in my mouth one day and haven't been able to eat it since. Not much of a loss since I didn't eat that much of it to begin with anyway.

I am a vegetarian for one or two meals per week.
I am a big proponent of people eating what they want, for the reasons they want. I only ask that they grant me the same courtesy.

The same thing happened to me. It was like one day, when I realized what I was eating, I just couldn't anymore. I don't really care about what other people eat, I just don't want have to eat it.

I enjoy vegetarian food. I love tofu and I like trying new things if I'm in a good mood. I love meat substitutes.
I also have chronic anemia and chicken + rice is my favorite food. I considered being a "pescatarian", which is fun to say. It's that you can eat fish but no other kind of meat.
But with the exceptions of a couple meals, I won't be a vegetarian. Evah.

I'm an ova-lacto vegetarian. Have been for 10 years now. It's about health for me -- not scruples about eating a living thing or the meat packing industry.

I,m a strict vegetarian since birth. The reason I am vegetarian Is because I consider life to be a precious commodity and I dont want to take away a creatures right to live.
I have no problem with eating plants or fruit, as this is a healthy way to live and coducive to developing spiritual intelligence, which is sadly lacking in our meat centred societies.

I'm not a vegetarian, and while I've considered becoming one, it's just not something that I think I can ultimately pull off.
The one thing I do get though - there were a bunch of vegetarians in my school, and almost all of them ate fish, even those who said they wouldn't eat meat because it came from a living creature. Why is fish ok to eat? I'm not attacking anyone's belief - to each their own - but I just don't get it.

I'm not a vegetarian. I feel like one sometimes. My wife is a nutrition Nazi. That includes no red meat. She also believes in eating food that is in as pure a state as possible. If there's an alternative without preservatives etc., then that's what she buys. Everything has to be fresh. She does grow a lot of stuff, so I'll give her that. Tomatoes, peppers, beans, etc.
Sometimes I just sneak off to Burger King and eat something. But I've learned to air out the car 'cause she can detect the odor of fast food. Honestly, I'm less whipped than most of my friends, but I just gave up on this food thing -- and I roll with it.
