GodofLiterature is an unknown quantity at this point
Do drugs allow a writer to become more creative?

Or does it stunts a writer's creativity?

Or do you believe drugs has no role with creativity, and that it is an innate talent you were born with and or a process you learned?

I think it depends entirely on the person.

Depends on the drug, and the person.

In my experience, certain drugs can aid with the raw creative process (idea genesis), but tend to overinflate one's sense of gradiosity and reduce prose to purple garbage.

I think for some people, drugs can unleash creativity. But at a cost. I don't think it's a creativity that can be sustained. Ultimately, drugs will inhibit writing. For most users, drugs eventually become all important, and the writing just won't happen.

The first part of your question has nothing to do with the second. You almost pulled this out, GOL, but the question really doesn't make sense to me.

Assuming any of us is born with any given talent, then drugs should or would not change anything there.

Presumably talent is not so much a given thing, as something we hone and work through, then I would say that drugs obviously have the power to allow us to be unhindered in our writing. The same sword cuts both ways, as what can make us great can make us far too full of ourselves and then we are too high, drunk, or inebriated to see that @the cup runnith over.!!!@

Weren't there a few great artists that used drugs when they worked? Or am I mistaken? But then again they could have been using to deal with other unrelated problems.

Yes, plenty of artists/writers used and use drugs.

How many times and in how many forms will we have this debate?

You don't need drugs to be creative.

Crack won't help you be creative but marijuana sure as hell will.

But you can breathe in the nice country air and still be creative.

I think life experiences, struggles, and pain can help give you insight and depth as a person (and as an artists or writer if you are one already). Good things in life can help with that too, at least in balancing.

I've written a lot of stuff on something, and none of it was worth anything, but I'm a lazy ass, so I kept it in my book anyway.I don't do drugs to help me write, though.

If anything, I think drugs inhibit true creativity. You would think they would unleash some sort of "power" but you simply can't feel like you can when you are sober. While high you think you can because you get all metaphysical and shit but my sober writing is better than when I was all doped out.

Plus, the drugs that really make a difference in mood fuck you up and it's not even worth thinking about if all you want is a "creative edge." You just look like a strung out asshole.

If you think you need drugs to write well I suggest finding something other than writing to take up your time.

Hell yes. And drank to. Fitzgerald couldn't write sober. I don't smoke any more, but I can see how for some, a bong hit or two might get the old juices flowing. Wouldn't have worked for me. It just turns my brain to "off."

Like someone said, all depends on the person and the drug.

I don't remember, but this is one of those debates where the first few posts pretty much cover all the ground, and then it's just rehashed over and over. How much can you say about it?

If someone else tells him that he writes better when he's high, then this statement holds weight. As it is, it doesn't. He might only think he writes better when he's high.

I could never write when I was drunk. It just came out as incoherent crap.
