Ha ha. 'Termite'. That one made me laugh. There's hope for you yet, Ox.

Anyway, we have only Leyline and myself that are willing to judge a 1,000 word contest. Seven and Sparky would prefer 500 words, if I'm not mistaken. I'm not posting the challenge until Sunday at the earliest, however, so you all still have time to find judges that want the 1,000 words.

    Off Topic:
By the way Seven, Hawke was MIA for awhile due to technical issues, and though that issue has been resolved, she's asked me to handle the LM for a little while longer.

And thanks for the info, Tiamat. I was just curious. Hawke is a neat gal; she brings a unique personality to the competitions.

What I don't understand is why it has become topic to change the 500 word count?

If this website is indeed meant to help one improve his ability as a writer, then the ability to cut down on gratuitous wording whilst keeping a story's initial structure is something most should be grateful to develop. Extending the word limit for even just one competition takes away from the core of what makes these contests as enjoyable as they are.

From my side I think it would benefit this particular competition. When given one line to work with, the possibilities are broader and so too is the structure, so 500 makes a lot of sense.

When given the premise of recreating a fairy tale, then structure is sort of in place to an extent, and having read a few fairy tales recently to prepare for this challenge, I think longer entries will bring better entries.

But to be honest I also think it will be a bit easier. 500 is a challenge for me, so by all means keep it as such. I need to challenge myself as a writer starting out. If other judges come along who agree that the longer word count is not such a drag then brilliant. But no tears if not.

Well, as I've said before, I prefer the 500-word limit. However, I don't see anything wrong with breaking the monotony every so often, if that's what the members want. If we do go with the 1,000-word limit this time around, it's not going to be an on-going thing, believe me.

EDIT: And looking back at previous challenges, this wouldn't be the first time the word limit was changed to suit the topic.

Yeah I knew there had been one, because I stumbled across it a while ago.
I'm happy for it to sit at 800. (or 750 if we want the serious middle ground)
I think Sparky was happy to judge at that level.

I feel like because I'm pushing for this I should offer to judge.
I'm not going to though. Only because I'm not confident in my ability to do so just yet.

To all those offended by my sense of humor I offer these delightful alternatives, surely appealing to even the most gossamer and pixie-like of fancies:

BTW, Fox & Tia, the above was not directed at you.

I am. And just to make it perfectly clear, I'm game to judge anything as long as it isn't bumped up higher than 800. Heck - make`em do it in 200 just to watch them squirm Different word counts have been used in the past, apparently, so I don't really see the problem with doing it now.

Alright, so how's 750 for a word count? (Don't ask me why, but the number 800 just doesn't sit well with me.)

Me, Sparky, and Leyline will judge that (if Leyline's offer to judge still stands, that is). What about you, Seven? Is 750 too much for your liking?
