Hello

Hello. You can call me Inara. Obviously, this isn't my real name, but it's a name of one of my chars. I'm still formulating her story in my head, but so far, she seems to be a pretty cool character, so I use her.
So yeah. I'm a hobby writer, but I'm extremely serious about my writing. My main genres are fiction and fanfiction, though I'm moving out of the whole fanfiction thing a bit and focusing a lot more on my completely original ideas like my planet of Valacia.
I also enjoy writing my own twists into things. Well, I guess that kind of comes from the whole fanfiction thing. Like one of my most recent stories. It's based off of the Holocaust, but it has my own twists. I use two races of Fairies [I capitalize Fairies and that kind of stuff because of the way I view them] with the dominant one trying to exterminate the lesser one. It's told through the eyes of a Kin named Hiri. The Kins are the lesser race. I just figured it'd be more powerful that way.
Heh. I got on a bit of a rant there, but I kind of have nothing better to do at the moment unfortunately. >_>
My stories aren't typical of what you'd find of my age group. While it's true some teenagers can write very riveting things and such, most don't. True, I'm a fantasy-based writer and I can't seem to get out of the genre, but I deal with things that most teenagers wouldn't. I deal sometimes with racism, sexism, decent governments with corrupt leaders and other things you wouldn't overly associate with the teenage hobby writer.
Of course, those are never the completely major themes in my stories [except for the Fairy Holocaust] but underlying ones. My main theme, though, is that women can be just as good as men if not flat out better. You'll always see in my stories that the main characters are actually teenage girls that always have some major boundary to overcome. Though my women are usually equal to men, there are instances, of course, where the women are looked down upon for being so flamboyant and independant. So, I guess that sexism is a major issue in my stories. I'm really just kind of sick of seeing most of the main characters in books as guys which is why I always write about girls. Well, that and the fact that I am a girl, so I find it hard to get into the mind of a guy.
So, I'll stop ranting now after probably boring you to death.

I used to write on similar subjects back when I was a teenager (I say that like it was years and years ago... only 23), not in a fantasy sense though. Most of my friends at the time used to get creeped out by such writing, but it only got darker...

I prefer to write in the mind of a guy, I think it's more fascinating from a woman's perspective (plus I have plently of male friends, especially my boyfriend and my brother, to test the male character against and see if he's realistic), but if you're concerned in not having a female main character, why not have two main characters, a guy and girl? I often do this, to play off one another. Plus, it'll help you write male characters.
