Hello all from Pennsylvania
Felt it only fair to join your forum since I have been reading your posts for a few weeks now and have enjoyed the content and your thoughtful critiques very much.
I am on the rebound somewhat in that I recently left a local writers group because I felt the leaders were more interested in talking politics than writing.
So I surfed the web for an on-line writers group and believe I have found a worthy one. I look forward to joining your conversations.
I work from home in Pennsylvania as an outdoors writer and editor for our local newspaper, and I produce and edit weekly TV and radio programs.
So basically my living comes from 1) the generosity of my loving wife; 2) income derived from newspaper writing, radio and TV advertising; and 3) freelance TV work. A lot of small checks adding up to a modest full-time living.
I orginally joined the local writers group because I was hungry for intelligent conversation, and I look forward to talking with members here for the same reason.
Two months ago I began writing my first fiction piece, a mystery novel, based on my outdoors experiences, hunting and fishing. I'm into it about 60 pages and thoroughly enjoy the process. I fall asleep each night thinking of the world I am creating, my characters and plot lines.
It's all very enjoyable, and I don't think I ever want to stop.
I have written hundred of newspaper and magazine articles, and never ran short of subjects, but I never felt I had enough stories within me to support a long fiction format. Much to my surprise, the ideas are bursting forth. Now I only wish I had begun the fiction work eariler in my career.
I expect one day to share some pages with you when we are better acquainted.
This introduction has gone on much longer than I expected. I will close with a friendly hello, again, and I look forward to hearing from you.

Hi, and thanks. I went to school in Manhatten for three years, and I studied comedy writing and performing for two more years with an old vaudevillian who lived in a show-biz hotel off Broadway in midtown. What are your teaching and writing interests?

I teach middle school science. My writing tends to focus more on technical articles (how to and such) rather than fiction.

To Rumpole: Wow. The detective in my mystery is a retired high school science teacher. Small world.

Hey, Mopsy, welcome from SW PA. You'll find plenty of political and philosophical talk here, too, but at least we also talk about writing. Make yourself at home.
