Thread: Howdy, y'all; or, why I'm here.

For the first time in years, I've felt the urge to get a story out on paper. I used to write A LOT when I was younger, but as real life kinda kicked in my writing time has disappeared. I'm a little rusty with the forms, plot structure, character building, etc so I thought I'd take a looky-loo at what others think they are and what they aren't.

For the longest time, every time I heard an author claim "the story just happened, the characters told me what was going to happen, etc", I honestly thought that was just bogus. Since I had a couple of good ideas in the last week, my main character virtually grabbed me by the shoulders, shook me and said "listen up, I'm only telling you once. This is the way it happened!" And since then, I've been slowly working my way around the edges of the story as I try to figure out how exactly the main event happened.

Hopefully, if all does go well, I won't end up with something as long as a epic fantasy novel (not that that is what I'm writing); but already it's growing beyond it's short story beginnings.

I stopped writing for a time and I would always come up with great ideas but I would be like fuck writing. I wish I always stuck with it.

I'm like a kid with a new toy...so many good topics to read/respond to...and my writing is getting shoved aside for the moment (considering I came here to look something up, and got distracted by my slightly A.D.D. nature. *grin*)
