    Hi everyone!

I'm here because I'm struggling with finishing novels, in particular the one I started in NaNoWriMo 2006. I did finish the 50K, but it was an incredibly bad, incredibly rough, first draft (which I understand to be "no problem" for NaNoWriMo). The novel is literary realism and I'll post more about it in the advice forum. I've rewritten and polished it to the point where some of it is actually readable but I've no clue how to finish it. I now have 275 pages, but I think every potential ending is a cliche and I'm thinking of scrapping the entire book. I thought I would give these forums a go before making that sad decision. I've started a half-dozen other novels before this, and have run into the same problem, although I've usually stopped at 50 pages or less. I simply don't know how to finish them. I'm hoping these forums will help.

Hello there, Xenophile, and welcome to Writing Forums! I think lots of us have the same problem: we start a novel, but don't get to the end. I have lots of manuscripts started up, and now just lying around. I guess most of them I'll never finish. With me, it's because my heart is not truly in it. When I feel good about a story, I end it.

Welcome to forums...hey, I have three unfinished manuscripts sitting in the bottom of my desk drawer right now...maybe one day I'll finish them, but if not... at least I have them to draw from for future work.
