Most ePeople that I know know me as StoneSoup. Stone Soup is a children's story in case you were wondering. I enjoy writing; I do it recreationally, sometimes. Most of the time I find myself writing for school. I thoroughly believe that school-writing dulls a persons mind by forcing what are supposed to be, in my opinion, creative ideas to meet a certain criterion. So, because I like writing, and I believe that school destroys my capacity for writing (which is when I do my most writing), I have decided to join a writing community to write creatively. Hopefully I learn a lot here. Maybe I can even compensate for the damage that education has done to me. Anywho, I play baseball, counter-strike: source, world of warcraft, and warcraft III. I live in Illinois (very near St. Louis). I enjoy being in the company of cool people. That about covers it. Cya around.

Hi there, StoneSoup! Welcome to Writing Forums. Why do you think that school smothers creativity? I'm into teaching myself, and I often get the best inspiration there.

Every embraced method of pedagogy or accepted standard was pioneered by an individual expressing themselves through a median of subjectivity. It should be every artist's concern to develop their own style. At the point where conformity is an only option, then we ignore and destroy other possible perspectives. The average person depends on the grade that they get in school to prosper later in life. In order to get a good grade, a student must write to appease his teacher's sense of style. He/she must also write on a particular topic. This removes many of the subjective inclinations experienced by a writer when developing their own style; it is also a forced, and only, reasonable option. School is an excellent source of inspiration, because, at school, life happens. But, writing for school does nothing more than remove the essence of writing from the writing itself. Learning is good. Learn by discovery. Never be taught what should be discovered. Not a big fan of school writing
