hello
I'd like to introduce myself. I'm actually very new to writing, but I realize I've always told myself stories in one form or another. Images, scenes and dialog have often floated through my head when daydreams have flowed into my life.
A couple of months ago I started thinking about the process of writing. I couldn't conceive that I could ever be an author because I am dyslexic. It wasn't until college that I learned my form of dyslexia, apparently, has to do with my ability to associate the written word with oral language. Basically, I think almost entirely in a mechanics of images and sounds compared to most of whom think in actually language. That seems very Flatland to me.
To some, this might seem as fishing for pity. It's not. I feel, I am actually very blessed intellectually. One of the therapists I spoke to when investigating it was under the impression I was actually dyscalculic. Which is, basically, a learning disability having to do with math the same way I have with texts. He believed Einstein was an undiagnosed sufferer. (Einstein was almost unable to do simple algebra.) He believed my mind was similarly built. I promply found a new therapist. I am no Einstien.
So, I warn all who will read anything I submit or any critiques I make, I won't be much help with commas(personally I use them too much) or spelling choices, but I might have a different view than most.
I introduce myself this way because writing seems to be about truth, and, it seems to me, great writings contain fundamental honesties. I'm going to try to start with the truth and work my way to great. And if great is out of my reach, I'll settle for interesting.
Reilly Roark Larson
As a post script, I chose my moniker from three of my favorite characters. Reilly for Ignatious J. Reilly - Confederacy of Dunces to remind me not to follow the tangents of my mind, Roark from Howard Roark - The Fountianhead to remind me of remaining true to a vision and Larson for Wolf Larson - The Sea Wolf to remind me great intellect resides in many forms.
