Greetings from below sea-level.

I thought I'd introduce myself before I did anything else, so here we go.

I'm a Dutch student from the Netherlands (Tiny country in Europe, about 60% below sea-level, most of it on reclaimed land.)

I'm 18 and following an ICT education. And that's about all the personal information you're getting out of me

The nick is one of many variations of a much longer nickname I use.

Because my first language isn't english, there are a couple of things I keep forgetting.
In particular the capitalisation of "I". I try to keep this from holding me back when I'm writing, as my artistic skills when it comes to my native language are... Alot worse.

I first started writing a few years ago. I kept a semi-fictional diary of my character in EVE-online. I published it via email to those that wanted to read it. When my friends read it, they always told me I had a knack for writing.

Those tiny stories have come a long way since then. A few months ago I completed a 200 page science-fiction novel I'd been working on for the better part of a year. After reading it though, it promptly ended in the trashcan, and I've since started anew.

Hopefully, with the help of this community, I might be able to write something that doesn't spiral into a cliche.

If you're wondering. The story was about a boy, facing the ultimate evil, which turned out to be his father... Sound familiar? Yeah. Hence the trashcan.

Anyway, I'm the kind of person that will gladly hear any oppinions, as they can only improve whatever i'm working on. I hope my attempts can provide, at the very least, something amusing to read and that I can contribute something to this community

Welcome, Oth.

And I hope that all of us can agree that we know where the Netherlands is.

So do I, but you wouldn't believe how many times people ask me where it is... I've talked to people that thought the Netherlands was some kind of mystical realm from some mythology. I suppose "Nether" sounds special or something.

But thanks for the warm welcome.

I kinda had a question though. I've read through the rules and such, but I can't seem to find anything about when you're allowed to post your own works? I read something about posting critique before you post something of your own. Is there somekind of unspoken rule regarding this?

I ask this because i've written a fair bit already and would like to get some feedback on it.

Yes it is very much an unspoken rule. It's just considered polite to critique as much as you post. That way, the people you critique will return the favor, thus continuing the cycle.

Also, don't post your work all at once. You want to post them one by one, getting people to critique and letting that single story grow. Once it is critiqued enough, you can introduce a new story.

But if you have a short story AND a poem, post both! That is because they are in different areas of the site.

See what I mean?

Thank you, that explains quite a bit.

I'd never post my complete works or even a large excerpt.
I've tried that in the past with some of my earlier stuff.
It quickly becomes a mess, and alot of problems can arise from doing so.

Thanks for your help!
