Greetings from yet another newbie!

Hello all!

For being an aspiring writer, I have no idea what to write as an introduction.

I'll start by saying that I'm a huge movie lover. I'm not very fond of black and white movies, but other than that, I'm open for suggestions on movies. Every genre has its great ones.

Although I haven't made time for it lately, I love to read. Short stories work best for me right now, so I am reading a few of those here. ***A BIG Thank You to the friend who directed me to this forum. I'm really enjoying it! ***

I'm addicted to myspace. Yes, I said it. I have a myspace account. *bows head in shame*

I'm working on getting my bachelor's degree in Literature. Then, I'll be working on an Education Certificate. God help us all when I do.

Music also plays a big part in my life. I enjoy rock, 80's, spanish rock, salsa, merengue, alternative and some country.

As for my spare time, I work for a medical insurance company full time. Yep, I pay your doctor and hospital bills.

I think that's it for now. I know it all sounds very choppy and random, but that's me...in a nutshell. Looking forward to meeting and getting to know you all.

I'll be posting some of my stuff soon, I promise. I'm a bit shy at first, but once I get comfy, I'll be alright and okay to share.

Cheers,

DQ

Hello, Drama Queen! Welcome to the forum.

Music, movies, writing... sounds like a good life!

Eh, your introduction was informative. Mine usually go "Hi... I'm Kate... uhm... be nice to me..." so you've done pretty well.

(This is one of my attempts to deviate from the only board I've posted in for 2 years... haha)

Thank you both for the welcome and greetings.

Do not worry. You don't have to bow before me. I'll treat you as my equals. I keed! I keed!

Anyway, I forgot to mention I have a guilty pleasure.

Here goes: *takes deep breath* I love to read (and write, occasionally) Fan Fiction! *gasp*

Okay, now you know one little secret of mine. I'm going back to work now. I'll be back later.

Me too.

*more shifty eyes*

Its a good way to get back into writing, if you've been out of condition for a while, which I have.

What do you write ff for?

(We should be whispering whilst discussing this. )

*does happy dance*

YAY! I'm glad to find someone else here who likes ff.

I can't believe I'm going to say this...

*whispers*

I have written some Orlando Bloom, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Matchbox Twenty and a mix of Curt Wild (from Velvet Goldmine) and Rob Thomas (from Matchbox Twenty).

I've read lots of Roswell, My So Called Life, and LOTR fics as well.

Isn't it all so addicting?

What have you written?

Fair enough. I think we delve in different branches of fanfic, but I suppose the premise is still the same.

I write for 2 shows - Crossing Jordan and House. It is fun; even though some people go off and make them all get abducted by aliens (which is probably how FF gets its bad rep ) I find that the challenge in it is to stick as close to an episode as possible, plot development and especially characterisation.

It really is lazy writing though - because we're stealing someone else's characters, settings and themes. But its OK, like I said, just for getting yourself back into the game. Sticking to the characters is a challenge, and a worthy one.

I wrote a 90 page long Crossing Jordan fic once. I was very proud of it.

I'm curious - how do you write FF for single people? You mentioned actors/etcl; so how does that work?

Fan Fiction

Single people fanfic is much easier, I think. Anything goes, pretty much. Pick your actor/band/actress and you can come up with your own additional characters, storyline, settings, and themes. Different fanfic sites have different rules as to what you can write in order for them to host your story. So that would be the only limitation you would have when writing that kind of fanfiction.

That's why I write more of that kind of fanfic instead of TV shows and/or movies. I agree with you on the idea that fanfic should stick as close as possible to the original settings, characters, etc. I'm still not good enough a writer (I don't think.) to be able to pull that off.

Kudos on the 90-page fanfic! I've not seen Crossing Jordan, but if you don't mind, I would love to read your story.

Would you really? Even having not seen the show?

Well if you're going to delve into the world of FF re a show you haven't seen, I'll give you another which isn't as long but is much better, in my opinion.

Tis called "In Sickness and in Death".

Here is the link...
