Hail Call from the US
Hello,
I am from the southeaster US - but please do not mistake me for a hillbilly. I am a college dropout that had too much fun duing my freshman year. Four years and a divorce later I have a daughter that is 3. I am currently trying to return to school to finish my journalism degree. I have been trying to get back on at the local newspaper where I interned as a high school seinor. I absolutely loved this job. My plan is to go back once a week and just basically ask if they need help with anything and maybe they will see that I am persistent and really do want to come back to the field. It may not be anything but part-time work or even freelance, but it is something that will give me valuable experience.
For as long as I can remember, I have always been told I am a good writer and that I do have the natural ability to put feelings and description on paper. I come here to improve on what I can already do and learn from those that have been doing this for a long time. I am open to questions and critiques, and I plan on participating in the challenges to improve where I can.
I think my ultimate goal is to probably write for the Super Retriever Series as I am a big fan of it. I already know Mr. Tackett and Ms. Nardi and I consider them good friends. But at the same time I feel like I need more experience to get on a professional level.
Also if anyone here knows where I can start looking for small freelance projects that would be great. I have thought about submitting random articles to my local newspaper as a reader submission.
Anyway, thank you for reading my introduction post and I hope I am able to learn as much as a I can.
Dixie

Welcome! And the best of luck to you! I'm from Kansas and used to canoe down on the Niagua every year. Beautiful country down there...

thanks for the welcome, I do plan on sticking around. I have already posted in a couple of the writers challenges, and its a good workout for the brain.
It is very wet and ucky outside so this is a good day to stay inside and write a bit. (Outside having to clean the house after yesterdays family get together)

Over here its all nice and sunny...but then again since I hate the cold I'd rather have rain any day.

Well I honestly dont mind the weather so bad knowing that duck season is right around the corner - but the fact that I have a head cold is what makes this weather very dreary.
Im in Arkansas and last night on the weather channel they said that the rain blob hanging over our state is going to be the newsmaker this week. So Im hoping it does not flood, even though we live on a mountain rather than in town in the valley.
