Wink love is a dangerous angel

hi everyone, i'm new here. my name's melanie, i'm 21 years old, i tend to sign my name ivory, or lady ivory. its a character in a short story by francesca lia block who happens to be one of my favourite authors.

i'm suffering the longest writers block ever right now, i feel like i haven't written in a year in a half. while that isn't true, it is true that i haven't been engaged in any long term novel writing in that amount of time. and i'm trying to pull myself out of that. i guess what i write is young adult bordering on something else. i used to write fan fiction, and though sometimes i still do, i'm reallyreally trying to get out of that. i've been writing novels since before i was twelve years old and i've always wanted to be published. well, i can't get published if i'm not writing, can i?

i love chatting and new friends, so comment, if you want to be friends! also, anyone who has any tips for surviving/breaking through the tough times that is writers block, i would love you forever if you could offer some advice!

<3. Ivory

Hey LadyIvory,

Welcome to the Writing Forums here where you will find some good people who will be able to assist you in whatever writing projects you have. I am SGW (SeattleGhostWriter). Name is Timothy though. I noticed you have aol aim so if you ever want to chat there, you can always catch me online on aim as DarkShadowGent.

Anyway, I think all writers suffer from writers block at some point, but to go without writing for a year or so would seem a bit out of practice.

What tends to help me is to just take a notebook and sit at a coffee shop and just start writing about the atmosphere. Try and capture the people there, the conversations, the images that one takes in, the smell.

Or just sit down and write out some random thoughts, feelings, particular objects. This tends to get my mind creatively going. Write out a list of What if Questions. Get a hold of some types of publications that you are interested in and fantasize about working as a free lance writer for them and start writing that way as well. Take an opening line of your favorite novel and put a spin on it. Practice, practice, practice.

Or just write whatever is playing on the stage of your mind. These things tend to help me out (sometimes) while I am trying to work on my writing.

Make up characters. Maybe just start some role playing and see how you would see your character react in some type of scenerio or situation.

Anyway, hope to see some of your work, and hope to talk with you more.

Timothy

Hey, LadyIvory, hope that writer's block goes away. I just recently got over a pretty long rut myself.

Welcome.

Hello there Ivory! Nice to meetcha :3

I sometimes,to help with writers block, just wait until about 2 am and wander through the neighborhood. Check out my old schools, and old apartments for a while. Usually inspires -something- in me.

Well thats my tip. Hope it helps!

Hi there Lady Ivory! Welcome to the forums!

Like most of us, I've also suffered from writer's block (actually more a case of not interested in writing anymore) - but I can assure you: it'll pass!
