Greetings from NY!
Hey! While I don't claim to be a writer, nor someone whose main focus is writing, I really do love it. I participated in NaNoWriMo this past November, but didn't get past 36k before I ended up hating my story. I'd like to be able to create fiction with more differentiated, realistic characters so that they remain interesting throughout.
My main interests are physics (the story I just posted, Uncertainty, is based on some physics principles), crew, playing clarinet, and most of my other classes, included English as certainty not last nor least.
I've asked for critique of my work before (in particular the aforementioned piece) but most of what I've been getting has been, "Huh? I don't get it" and I thought showing it to a larger audience would be helpful.
Hopefully I'll be posting more work- this was the first piece that I wrote and finished of my own volition.

I used to play the clarinet. Well, I can still play it, I just choose not to.
Welcome to WF. Feel free to get in touch with a clarinet playing mentor if you need any assistance.

Hi there, and welcome to the forums! Sorry, but I'm not one for physics (or all other scientific subjects). I love languages and history, and economics.

Hi Northern Lights,
Wanted to reply for Two reasons,. One I love your name, it conjures up an amazing memory for me, you know the kind you keep wrapped really close to your heart and in cotton wool?
Two, saw you were from New York and having visited there for the first time ever in November, wanted to say 'Love your city.'
Sorry am a complete dunce when it comes to anything scientific.
Hope you enjoy it here.

Ilan- yeah, it really is crazy. 65 degrees the other day, people were out rowing, they said it was incredible. Of course, now it's the nastiest rain-slow yet.
Lorlie- Glad you like my name. I borrowed it from the shell (boat) I rowed in my novice year. It was a gorgeous blue, and I have some really good memories from rowing in that boat with those girls.
As far as New York goes, I'm sorry to say I'm not from NYC. I'll be there this weekend, though! I'm from upstate- that other part of the state that no one ever thinks about!

Ilan- I'm way up in Rochester, gateway to Buffalo. Where is New Paltz? I recognize the name but can't place it on a map.

Holy Shmoly! Another Aurora Borealis-y name! I didn't even think before I made my name... now I wish that I had dropped it for another one. Oh well, I guess we both live up North and were somehow inspired by it.
I've never seen the Northern Lights outside of TV -- so I suppose you are more entitled to the name than I.

NaNoWriMo is tough- my props to winners.
DaNL- haha, I'm not THAT far up north....just the name of a boat. I've heard they are beautiful, though.
