Need some imagination

Hi all. I was just browsing the net because nothing is on the hundreds of channels on the tube...as always. When I stopped reporting at a newspaper a couple months ago I was determined to start freelance writing but its hard to get motivated and imaginative. Its even more depressing when I can read how imaginative some of you are. I often wish I still had the imagination I had when I was a child. I was so imaginative. Its really sad that kids are pushed to grow up so fast and encounter the "real world" that strips away all our imagination...well at least mine. I mean my God...I became a reporter. There's absolutely no imagination in that. Just tell the story.
Anyway, I hope that wasn't too much for an introduction. But why go through formalities. Right?
Glad to be here.

Imagination is much like being hungry. If you eat a big meal now, you will be more hungry tomorrow. (Something about shrinking and growing stomach) So if you lose your hunger it will just come back bigger and stronger. Likewise with imagination. You say you have lost it? I say it's most likely just busy growing. Wait till tomorrow before you say you have none.

Welcome to the forums.

welcome, ex-newshound!

if you want to freelance now, don't worry about the imagination factor... writing for magazines or copywriting doesn't take all that much, after all... your journalism background is actually a better base, since you should already know how to do the research and put together a well-structured piece... all you need is to give your writing the personal flair that's frowned upon in reporting... so, turn yourself loose, and enjoy it!

best of luck to you, in your new pursuits... hugs, maia

The cool thing about just having to put story on a page, is that you can experiment with syntax, by using uncommon words. (I would love to find a place to use the word discombobulate.)

Imagination is so easy to obtain, but so elusive... why is that?? There are days when I think I might be absolutely insane, because I can't get the thoughts onto the page fast enough; and then there are days where I think I might go nuts, because I wouldn't find an idea if someone had wrapped it up, put it in a bag and handed it to me... UGH...

Welcome, from one newbie to another!!
