Howdy

Hello everyone. I found this forum a few weeks ago and have been stopping by every so often. I figure I've lurked enough and should probably introduce myself.

I'm not really a writer but I'm interested in becoming one in the near future. I'm anxious to get started but my current work schedule limits me. Three months ago I moved to Taiwan to work as an English teacher for a year. Since I've been here, I seem to have stumbled across a talent for writing that I never knew I possessed and I am very interested in exploring it. Being that I'm a complete "newb" to the teaching game (I was a software engineer in my previous life), I find my job takes up a majority of my waking hours. Thus, I haven't had a lot of time to begin this little adventure. However, as I become more comfortable in my current position, I will have much more time and energy to invest in writing.

So, that's my story in a nutshell. Before I ask for advice, I should point out that my goal is not to get published. My focus at this point is to get myself acclimated and learn as much as I can about being an effective writer. For the most part, this is more of a personal journey than anything else. That being said, I'm curious if anyone could offer some pointers on the best way to get started.

Thanks!

A smart man is one who starts out with the goal of furthering his writing and not his pocketbook.

Hee hee. Hello and welcome!
