New on the forum - Looking for advice
Hey all,
I happened across this forum while browsing the internet and I thought it would be a good spot to stop and ask for some advice. I am a newly published author (cough*self-published*cough), but published none-the-less.
Anyway, I'm looking for advice in all facets of the industry from marketing, advertising, sales, all the way to every period and comma in my book. While I would love for all of you to run out and buy my book so you can give me constructive criticism, I'll settle for any tidbit you have to offer. What has been the most helpful to you in your career? Where did you start? Etc.
My novel is called Pray for Rain: A College Baseball Story. It is a fiction novel that is inspired by my time spent as a baseball player at the University of Michigan from 1999-2003. You can check out at my website www.lulu.com/jasonwuerfel if you'd like. My avatar is actually a mini picture of the cover. I'd love for you to download the free preview if anything, and if you're interested in the whole book without wanting to spend the cash, e-mail me at jasonwuerfel@hotmail.com, and I'll send you the ebook for free! What a bargin!
Come on people, you have the knowledge, and I want it! Help a fellow writer out!
Jason

Welcome to the forums, Jason.
The forums seem to delve on the writing aspects more than the marketing aspects of being an author, mostly because most of the members aren't published, but don't let that discourage you. Being a part of the forums has greatly improved my writing over the past year or however long I've been a part, and it's a great community to be part of.
Feel free to contact a Mentor with any questions. Enjoy, critique, post.

Welcome to the forums Jason!
Ilan beat me to it, so I second what he just posted above.
But I think you can still learn alot at this forum. There are few published and self pubished writers on this site. Sadly, I'm not one of them.

The cover looks really cool. If you post some of your questions in "Writing Tips and Advice," you may get more productive answers.
Anyway ... Welcome to the forums!

welcome, jason!... and good luck with your book... as for marketing a self-published one, that takes lots of work, time, and chutzpah... you'll need to get out there and talk the smaller indie bookshops into taking a couple of copies, then keep following up to see if it's selling... to spur sales, you should arrange book signings, get on your local radio and cable talk shows, etc.... since it's sports-related, you can set up a tailgate shop at local ball games, offer to donate part of your profits to the local teams, and such...
i'm sure you can find many more marketing tips in a google search, but those are just a few off the top of my head...
if you want feedback on the writing quality, it's best to post an excerpt here, as many of us don't like having to go elsewhere to read work the writers want us to comment on...
love and hugs, maia

Hey Jason. I read the excerpt on Amazon the other day and would be interested in reading more. I'm a huge baseball fan so I really like the idea of the novel. Keep up the good work.
