New guy checking in!

Just wanted to drop in and say hello. I've been writing for many years with small publications of my work here and there in various zines and such. I've traveled around the United States for quite a few years looking for that ineffable something to fill the unquenchable nothing that lingers inside. After some recent events that caused the deconstruction of my life, I've decided once more to hit the road at 30 years of age. I'm going to be hitchhiking from Atlanta to Seattle then down to San Francisco in about two weeks. There are some other tentative stops along the way, but a lot of it just comes down to where I feel like going at the time.

I'm working on a novel that I've been stuck on these last two years; two years that I've more or less tried to deny my own spirit by subscribing to a nine to five life devoid of any external inspiration. So, with this choice in mind, I've created a blog to document my wanderings as I roam about writing on my novel and learning from the random events and people I'll encounter along the way. As well, I'm going to use my blog as sort of a journalist's eye. The story though will be about the more subjective aspect of events rather than pure facts. I'm more in to what people think and feel rather than just what they do.

It seems to me people have forgotten what this country was supposed to be. Maybe I'm wrong, but i'll never know unless I go check it out for myself. So, I figure, I'll document what I experience along the way.

Enough about me though. I look forward to learning from the people here as well as other forums I've found that serve as a cyber home for kindred spirits. I've also added a link to this forum on my blog, that way maybe if somebody else out there is searching, it could potentially guide them here as well as other places that I've found to be inspirational.

Anyway, along the way I'll be stopping at various public libraries to update and check in.

cheers,
Ed
