I'm back after a year.Hello

Hi all,
I have been gone so long and after looking at all the new members I decided to post here to get back in. Illness got me down for a while and I'm coming back. check out my website for the new stuff. I look forward to interacting with you all.
With that in mind I would ask a question based on the increase in pain killers I'm taking. My muse all but flew away...Empty head....story none...poem none...lyric none. I have read authors reportably blasted out of their minds...great books.
Here's the question-Do you write better with some mind popping dose- coffee/tea/booze/cigarettes or other recreational ingestables? What does it do to your writing?( How about smelly candles? etc)
I will be back
Penny

Hi Penny, welcome back.

I'm not sure what I'd say about aids to the muse. I remember getting stunning storylines when smoking dope but there were 2 problems. 1 is the general tendency on dope to procrastinate & 2 is the problem of remembering what it was about 10 seconds later.

See you around...

welcome back, penny!... glad you're better... as for using any pharmaceutical, alcoholic, caffeinated, or less legal aids, i'd say "Don't!"... aromatherapy is a good idea, though... check out which scents are best for braincell-activation/augmentation or whatever... unlike all the alternatives you listed, at least it can't do any harm...

meanwhile, till your muse gets back from her vacation, why not take out some old shelved work starts and just practice on taking them to the next step?... that way, you don't have to come up with new ideas, till you're 'back in shape'...

love and healing/inspiring hugs, maia

Smile bringing in the subject of sheep

Thanks to you all for the welcome back.
I took your advise mammamaia and like a pig after a truffle I dove into all my old work. I am not young and I sorted papers out by decade. My God I was awful.Baaaaaaaaaaad.
YET...I saw the seeds of possible fruit.Once I waded through the morass of notebooks and floppy discs- I was able to find a few projects. There was a nugget of gold in it all. In 40 years I was able to read what mattered to me as a participant/writer in all those years. Most of it not connected to any headline.
I do not in anyway advocate an artificial intelligence produced by non-intelligent ingestion of illegal products. The doors of perception still do fly open...perhaps slower or just ajar but open still. Aromas I can see.
Journeyman...I dont remember. That subject wove it's way through the 60s and 70s.I forgot where I put that stuff.I was told once that the problem with drugs is that you can't be resposible for insights gained while in the midst of its effect. (Hi my friend!)
So here is the question...what do you do to get yourselves ready to write?
and- do you prefer to write in a small personal way or broader grand strokes?
glad to be well enough to be back.
Penny
