Diane W Kavanaugh
Hello from sunny California

Hmmm, where to begin...

My name's Diane and while I'm not new to writing, I am new to writing with the purpose of being published someday. I have a pretty busy life and finding time to sit and produce written work can be difficult at times. I'm a new wife and stepmom to an 11 year old boy who lives with us. I also babysit my 1 year old (on the 23rd) granddaughter full-time and try to keep a relatively tidy house in the process. No luck there, so far.

I think my biggest challenge is learning to say: NO! And insisting people leave me alone when my scheduled writing time has come. As a housewife, most people think I have unlimited time and energy on my hands, because it's not really a job after all, is it? And writing is considered a hobby I can work on anytime.

My point being, I'm not sure how much time I can devote to this forum, but I am looking forward to reading and participating, and most importantly, learning from everyone here.

Thanks for having me!

hello there!

i seriously believe that the job of the housewife is underrated. two of my friends have stay at home moms. they work ALOT. infact, most of the time they do more than my own mother does. so dont let people get you down about it.

and i hope to see your writing soon!!!

Welcome to the forums! I personally would greatly appreciate whatever time you are able to give us. One of the reasons that WF works so well is because each writer who comes here brings in different experiences and knowledge that can be shared to help each other. I look forward to your contributions.

Participate just as much as you like. For your own benefit more than ours, though like daniela says, it's great to have people from numerous occupations and backgrounds here.

Welcome to the forum!

Hello Diane!

I'm glad you're here. Welcome. I'm like Demonic, I think being a housewife is definitely underrated. Even without the children, there is a lot to do. I'm sure you will find some time to spend with us and hopefully those around you will let you have time for your writing. If it is something you want to do, I'm sure they will offer some support. I look forward to seeing you around the forums. Have fun.

Thank you all for the warm welcome.

I agree that the job of homemaking is underrated. I worked outside the home for 30 years, and after being layed off from a start-up company (third start-up, third layoff), my then fiancee and I decided I should stay home so Kevin wouldn't have to go to daycare. I swear, I work harder now than at any job I've ever held! But, it is also the best job I've ever had. The perks are outstanding, if you know what I mean.

My husband's totally supportive of my writing aspirations and right now he's my biggest fan. He does his best to give me time to write, but I need solitude to get any real work done. You know, to get into the flow, dig deep, and really sweat the words out. So far, that's when my granddaughter's napping, and Kevin's in school. So, I try to make the rule, "I write when Melinda sleeps"

But I ramble and must stop now.

Thanks again for the welcome and I'll see you around the forums.
