I’ve just joined up and after reading through a few of the posts, both old and new, and am beginning to think that perhaps I’m a little out of my league, but we’ll see how we go.
I’ve been in to writing letters for a long time but they always screw off in tangents and then an overactive imagination takes over and stories loosely based on fact seem to spin off in all directions and a couple of thousand words long.
Had a friend tell me that these letters were a similar style to Hunter S. Thompson and I started reading his books. Half a dozen of his books later, and I can no longer tell where Hunter stops and Strathen begins in my writings. It’s a bit crazy but most will recognize it when I start talking about the fat being in the fire etc. Favourite HST book is definitely ‘Fear and Loathing in America’.
Not sure if I’ll ever look to get anything published, but am keen to improve my style and actually figure out what exactly my style is. A little confused but was recommended to jump on a site for help from a friend who wants to see me write more.
Top 5 books at the moment (excluding HST): Catch 22, One flew over the Cuckoo’s nest, Off the Road (great companion to ‘On the Road’), Junkie and Crime and Punishment.
Sorry if this is a bit long for a first post.
Look forward to chatting to you all soon
Strathen
