Screenwriting

I've just joined up and I'm excited about sharing ideas. I have always enjoyed writing and think I have found my niche with screenwriting. Have pretty much mastered Final Draft and have completed one 90 minute script which I collaborated on with a friend. I have thought about adapting a book into a screenplay but not sure how that works. Anyone have knowledge concerning rights regarding adaptations?

Welcome to the forums Ghinger!

Glad you joined us! I have played around with screenwriting, but have never really concentrated on it a lot. I don't know for sure about the things involved in getting the rights to adapt a book. If you post the question in the Writing Tips & Advice or Writers Resources section, I'm sure someone could answer it for you.

Hope you enjoy it here!

Welcome to Writing Forums Ghinger! I agree with Selorian, the best place to ask your question would be in the Writing Tips & Advice or Writers Resources section. Anywhoo, welcome aboard! =]

Hey there!

I'm actually enrolled in Film school right now in the Screenwriting department, so I'll jump in here.

If you want to adapt a book, you need to get the rights to that book first... and normally that'll only happen once you're an established writer in the industry.

Your best bet for breaking in is to write as many short films as you possibly can and get one made... the short film is a filmmaker/screenwriter's calling card.
