Eragon (What so great about that book?)

Eragon--okay, lets cut to the chase. I've read that book only a short while ago, and although it was written by a nineteen year-old, I still thought it was good. I mean, the writing style wasn't a total amazement among the crowd, but I've realized that many people are obsessed with the book. Can anyone care to explain why? I mean, its not in the league with Tolkien or anything.

Care to explain why, anyone?

The Evolution of the Duck
just following the crowd or something like that is my guess. I haven't gotten around to reading it myself yet, but my opinion will probably be similar to yours. Although I do have to say that i find beauty in the small things, and so if it has enough lovely fine details, i often consider that enough to call the entire book awesome. But that can be done for many books, i really see no reason to single one out. Also, just cause its really awesome that he's so young. Probably gives inspiration to other young writers hoping to make it big.

First, this post is in the wrong forum. Second, there are already some opinions posted about this book and the author here and here.

Personally, I think many people are amazed mostly because Christopher Paolini was fifteen when he started writing Eragon. The age factor blinds them to the truth that this book is merely average, and not a masterpiece. However, I do feel that as long as Paolini does not get a fat head over all of the praise he has received and attempts to grow as a writer, he may come out with a novel in his late twenties or early thirties that will blow everyone away for the right reasons. The one redeeming value this book has for me is that like the Harry Potter series, it gets children interested in reading instead of relying on T.V. for entertainment. Any author able to draw junior couch potatoes away from the boob tube for a few hours is worthy of some laudation.
